The Bandapocalypse :(

Dude *** is your problem you are going to get PAID, real money to play a set like that? That's a joke any bass player who can operate shoelaces can nail those tracks in their sleep. Seriously I need to find out about this getting paid to play simple ass radio pop singles thing!

I really, really hate to bump...
But the drummer I fired the lead guitarist/singer and hired a new one, I ordered myself an amp and I will pick it up tomorrow, right before we have our first practice :).

After I had a conversation with the gig organizer it turned out that my friend, the organizers son, was building us up to be somewhat of a superband. The organizer offered us a part of a school battle of the bands that takes place right after the other set we were offered.

Im hoping the gig turns out well but I know it will be a fun learning experience... Even though I lost some freinds (the guitard, for example)...

I was wondering how it had all turned out. Sounds like you've kept things moving in a good direction! I noticed your other threads asking about amps so it sounds like things are working out.

You may not be a "superband" but just give it your best and see what happens, enjoy the experience and learn.

As for the guitarist friend, I'd see it this way; either he's a real friend, in which case he'll get over it and continue being your friend; or he's not really a friend and never was, he was just jerking you around, in which case you're better off without him. You'll figure out which is the case with a little time.

An empty school is a pretty good place to practice. In my day as a senior student we would have got the key to the old gym on trust. Is there no custodian around that could let you in and have a responsible adult supervise?

Since the Columbine massacre, it has become very difficult do things like this in the States. Schools require use by non-school groups to be applied for, approved, uber-supervised...they'd use up half their allotted time to get ready with getting approval for the space. If a custodian were to let some kids in so they could practice, with no prior approval, he or she would lose their jobs in the blink of an eye.

Sad, but true. They'd be better off approaching a local church, a business with some un-used space, a community center...

Cherie

Interesting thread.

Yeah it seems to me that the people were being a bit hard on BassPenguin... as an oldish one I remember it was like that for me when I was at school.

There was me, organising the band to do something, then the other band members liked the idea of being in a band, but somehow chasing girls or driving about in their car visiting Maccas or drinking till they were sick was generally more interesting...

yet these "musicians" had the guitars and amps and drumkits just given to them, and got it all so easy. I had to clean toilets or wash up at the local diner.

So yeah, there comes a point when you just find it all too hard to do on your own, trying to carry the others. A lot of the time it's the bass players who do!

The advice to learn and get better is good. Also keep looking about for others who share your passion. When you do, and you will if you are dedicated and have a good attitude, you'll be so amazed that there's someone else who lives and breathes it too.

If you want to do it, then do it. Learn to quickly assess who is for real and who's just an X-factor contestant.

Good luck.

So you bumped it because...? Do you have an update on your band?

Actually I kinda do.

About 2 months ago I was kicked out for "just being a dick". When I asked for further explanation I was told that, basically, I was pushing for more (and better) gigs too hard. They also seemed to have a problem with me trying to organise practice.

Overall, im not that annoyed that I was booted, it was getting pretty close to the point were I just quit anyway.

I hope that next time im in a band I will be able to deal with my bandmates better, be more professional and not whinge about it on my favorite forum.

I'm guessing you're young. You were the only one in that band that wasn't "a dick."

Lesson learned. Less whining online, and more insisting that everyone pull their weight, and do what is needed.

I think this was a very enlightening thread, and you shouldn't really be all that embarrassed.

Maybe a little, though.:bassist:

I wish I had seen this thread earlier.

My suggestion would be fire everyone in your band, and hire some pro musicians at $200 a pop. One of them would probably even let you borrow an amp for that kind of dough. You would have gotten a chance not only to get good exposure, but sound good while doing it.

With 20/20 hindsight that is a stellar suggestion, don't mind the jiveman kid, usually he's a bit more sensitive.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M SENSITIVE?

Just leave me alone...............
