The Bass Lines of Sade

The song "Paradise" has such a groove to it. Paul has been one of my main influences. I am glad to hear that Sade is coming out with a new album. I will definately be in line to see her and Paul.

I heard the new Sade CD and I have to say I'm not feeling it. Soldier of Love is ok, but the rest of the CD doesn't hold up to their prior work.
Yeah, I think she/they may a bit past their prime, but Lover's Rock took awhile to grow on me. I could still be talked into leaving my wife for her.

I saw the band live on the No Ordinary Love tour -- early 90's at the Mann Music Center in Philly.
Not only were they tight as ever -- they were seriously rockin' and funky!
I remember Digable Planets opened up and they had a killer upright player doing Cool Like That, etc.

I got the new CD and it is a grower - you have to listen a few times ! No 1 download in the UK.
I think in this thread there is some confusion - so this is explicit in CD notes etc. - so "Sade" is the band which includes Paul Denman as bass player and Sade Adu is the singer - but they are a long-standing band, not just a solo artist!

I JUST got this---have always loved Sade and Denman's playing.
I actually think the single/title track is the weakest thing on the album--trying too hard I think. Otherwise I think they did a very admirable job of sticking to the Sade stripped-down aesthetic(instead of trying to jump through all kinds of hoops to sound "current"), and she sounds great. At first, I was listening on some small speakers, and I was a bit like, "OK, where's the bass"--but now really I dig that Denman's really going for that subterranean dubby vibe AND on his Ray no less. Makes me wanna try my Ray on a reggae gig! He's almost tasteful to a fault, but I'd rather hear that than the inverse any day.
