Said Thumb bass should also have a large beard, within which is hidden a large fist. He really likes that punchy tone.
+1 for Leo Fender first and foremost,tho he never played bass we'd be nowhere without him.

Yes, I know, sure, there are other game changers — Jamerson, Macca, Ox etc – but the OP limited the selection to four (4).
There are too many good ones and it's not fare to exclude them. We could use the Rocky Mountains, they extend from Canada down into the US and should give us plenty of room for all those deserving of having their faces etched in stone.
Also, I chose ones who actually played bass, so Leo Fender, Everett Hull (though a bass player he was only a game changer on the tech side), Jess Oliver, Pete Traynor and JS Bach are out.
