The bends?

Use it to fret!!! 1 fret per finger, use every finger including the little finger. When you do this remember to keep your thumb behind the neck (not on top) and as low as possible. You should bend your wrist and use your fingertips to play. Do exercises like 1 2 3 4 using 1 finger per fret, then try and adapt that to song you've learned.

How far are you trying to bend a half-step, whole-step. Need to practice bending in tune. In general bending the string up till it touches the string above it, is usually a half-step bend.

Practice using bends to play a melody that has half steps in it so you can hear them hit the right pitch. The beginning of Birdland by Weather Report is simple and has a half-step bend in the melody. Play it slow and focus on bending to pitch.
