The best analogue octave down pedal.

I have to defend the EHX pedals here. Different strokes and all that. But the one I have (HOG) is an excellent, feature-rich pedal. The only tempting alternative would be the Eventide Pitchfactor.

As previously stated, I think the 1590A box won't be too common for octavers. You're gonna have to go bigger. I've always used digital pedals and a combination of blenders, mild overdrives, and preamp pedals to get a quality pitch-shifted sound that doesn't sound thin, or tinny, like most digital octavers.

I know that doesn't really answer your original question, but I also don't believe there is a viable answer to your original question either, unfortunately. My solution has taken a lot of time and money, and a lot of time and experimentation. Best of luck. This is always a tricky subject.

I do see and appreciate your point.
I was however looking for 'personal' favorites and reasons for people favoring one over others, so I think I have already goten quite a few viable answers and pointers as to which pedals to try.
The 1590A box would be a real bonus but depending on the quality of the pedal won't be a deciding factor.
Many features is something I equally do not need. A GOOd sounding octave is all I am after( and good distortion, auto wah, bitcrusher thing and possibly frequency analyser pedal...all ideally in 1590A) :)

I gotcha. There is something to be said for getting a pedal that does just one thing and does it well. It's fun to fiddle with knobs and sliders at home, but on stage you really just want to stomp on something and have it do the one thing (reason for having multiple dirt pedals). Hope you find the right one.

I have tested a couple, here are my personal feelings:
-Aguilar Octamizer: very nice and warm sound
-MXR Octave Deluxe: nice sound as well but less appealing, personally (don't know, sounded a bit empty, compared to the previous one)
-Boss OC-3: many options, definitely more 'synthie' kind of sound
-T-Rex Octavius: interesting octave-up option, more versatility, but a bit too clean.
I believe only the first two are analog. My choice would go to the Aguilar for the warmth. My 2cents.

Just got an Octron...it's pretty awesome. Big fat low octave plus nice fizzy high octave if you need it. Used it for the first time today and loved it. Used to have an octamizer and loved that as well. I think the Octron tracks better though and is a bit easier to dial in a subtle octave if needed.

Is anyone here aware of any good european builders?
Just out of interest and to widen the circle a little.
I know of ebs, and am not sure if markbass do an octave but am at a loss for anyone else building such pedals.:)

Also, the Markbass Supersynth includes an octaver. The above is analog and the Supersynth is digital.

Gojira do a lot of clones, but do have some original circuits, the Trembulator being the most notable. I'm not positive their Octaver is analog though. It has 1 octave up and 2 octaves down. I've wanted to try out the Octaver but haven't yet. They did a Fuzz War clone for me which came out great.
