Double Bass The Best Upright Bass Case

Since we're into zombie thread revival, I used and loved a Soundwear case until the main zipper failed. Those cases are great for protection, but also expensive and heavy. I'm going to get that zipper replaced someday. In the meantime, I'm happy with the cheaper and lighter Bobelock bag that I replaced it with.

I have a Bobelock bag which has inch-thick padding, lots of straps and pockets and is roomy enough for any 3/4 size bass. Its been great even though it is well travelled. I have had it through two Northern Ontario winters (Kay bass.... its OK) where the nylon covering was so brittle because of the cold it was like paper but it has never torn or come apart. The positioning of the handles make it easy to carry and to load into vehicles.
I got mine from Chris Quinn for around 200 bucks US but I'm not sure how much they are now.

Martin.
+1 on the Bobelok, much like a Mooradian at half the cost.

I picked up a standard bag from Upton (they're local to me). Relatively inexpensive. Pretty well made, holding up nicely after a year of gigs. Nice bag ... but could use at least one more handle at the bottom.

I have Uptons Deluxe bag and it's really nice. Good padding, plenty of very sturdy handles that are placed in good locations, and its easy to handle. I like the burgundy color too.

I've got an older Pro-Tec bag. It's well padded, offers good protection, but is a bit on the heavy side. But, I've also owned lighter, less padded bags and saw how their lack of said padding led to more edge damage on previous basses I've owned.

For the past 4 years, I've owned a used, earlier Reunion Blues bag. The nice leather pads over the bridge area and all the extra handles. It's previous owner did replace the zipper and that's all.

I've had no problems using it and it's protected my basses hauled in it for severla years no. I fully expect to get quite a few more years of service.

A year is no test for a bag. I've got 15 on my Moo and it still looks brand new!

I know a year is not much, but when i think that last year i destroyed 2 chinese bags with mild abuse in a couple of monthes.. im pretty happy. and this one has been on back of trucks, snow, sun, rain.
Also on the Soundwear the handles are on the right places...
please realize that i dont have any affiliation with Soundwear, im just a happy customer. i hope this one will last 15 years....

Something I haven't seen addressed is how easy/difficult it is to get the bag on and off the bass. The stock "Presto" bag that came with my Eastman is adequate for now, but putting it on the bass is a total PITA. Every time I wrestle that thing on, I feel like I'm dressing a 6-foot tall person who is paralyzed and unable to help.

My full size came with a mooradian bag in 1999 and it still looks great today. This is a big bass that has been schlepped all over the southeast for the past ten years and this bag and the bass have held up great. If I bought one new it would hurt to shell out the change but I know I would be glad I did. I have no experience with the other bags but that is because I never needed one. For a less valuable bass I would look at one of the lower priced bags. There are a couple that actually look very nice.

The one "negative" with the mooradian is the weight. With the 4/4 size bag and my bass the combined weight is between 40 - 50 lbs. Fortunately I am not a small guy so the weight isnt a huge issue. I just chalk it up to extra padding.
