Double Bass The Best Upright Bass Case

I've been using an Eastman CB50 with my old German bass. It's done well for me. LOTS of handles in the right places. Could use a little more padding, but I'm pretty careful with the bass and its rarely in harms way. I thinks its a very good low cost bag. My new bass is more fragile and worth a lot more money so I need a more padded bag.

I have used Bobelock bags for years and have been very happy with them. On the folding issue, you can fold them in half pretty easily - I store mine under the piano when at home and usually agains a wall behind me or in a closet on gigs. Haven't tried folding them more than that.

I usually fold the neck over, then fold the whole bag once. Can't always find a large storage place on gigs. (or at home)
The Bobelock looks a little softer than the Tuff Bag but you can't tell by looking. I've been using Mooradian electric bass bags for many years. Great bags. I already blew all my money on the bass, so looking to spend a little less on a bag. Thanks for the opinion.

So after looking at a few bags, I have to admit, the Eastman CB 50 is looking better and better. I'd have to put it on the same level as the Messina, although the Eastman has more pockets, more "good" handles, and at least as thick a padding. Unless the Bobelock is substantially better, I'll stay with the Eastman.

Never saw an Eastman bag in person, but it looks a lot like the Bobelock with most things in the same place. The one thing about the Bobelock that you have to watch is that depending on the fit the edges of the bass can sometimes line up with the seams, leaving parts of the edge with very little protection. But I guess they have to put the seams somewhere. The Eastman looks like it might do the same. That said, I have had zero problems with the Bobelock bags over the last 10 years and have 3 of them.

I have a TUFF bag, and here are the pros and cons. The PRO: zipper and handle placement, the weight, protection and foldability are all excellent, with a nice protective edge inside the zipper also. The big CON is that almost every single pocket is ripped at the side - the seams of the pockets are just not well sewn. I like it for protection but I am unable to use the pockets. Been meaning to contact the TUFF folks about it.

A big PRO is that their warranty "Is for keeps". So I definitely will be contacting them. Short of the pocket blow-outs, I feel the protection is incredible for the weight, and the comfort of carrying.

But I think I also really want a Messina. Have a fellow TalkBass friend here who has one and it seems as nicely built as my early model Blue Reunion bag, only lighter and tighter.

I just looked at a Messina next to my Eastman CB50, which is a good amount cheaper. The foam thickness seemed about the same as the Messina, but the Eastman had more storage, as well as more and better handles in the right places. I would guess the Messina is somehow better, being more expensive. I just didn't see it.

What are the dimensions on the Eastman? Can't find any specs online. Having a 7/8 Upton Bohemian built.

I don't think I could tell you. I got it from Lisa at L.A. Bassworks. Mine is a 3/4 size bag. Sizing is quite generous. If the 7/8th sizing is in line with mine, I don't think you'd have much of an issue. After at least two years, mine still looks new. Not the thickest foam but the foam seems to be good quality. So again, no problems. Your mileage may vary.

Bought a new bass late last year which included a Bobelock bag. Hated it. No matter what you did, if you laid the bass on it's side it rolled over.

I got fed up and called Dave Messina. A pleasant guy to deal with, and he sent me a great case. I ordered it with every panel being a different, bright color, and he never batted an eye. I've never been around a Mooradian, but it can't be any better than this thing. Maybe as good, but no better.

After many trouble-free years with Mooradian, I finally splurged and had a Messina bag made. I'm very pleased with it; it fits like the proverbial glove, the pockets and handles are exactly where I wanted them, and because it fits so well, the bass is easier to maneuver.
