Double Bass The Best Upright Bass Case

I am beginning to look around for a new cover to fit my 7/8 size 5 string upright bass. I am currently using a heavily padded case that has served well for several years; however, it’s now beginning to show some wear.

When I first started playing upright, I was able to purchase a couple of covers that were made up in Kentucky and equipped with a front full length zipper that I dearly loved, because it was easy to put on and take off. Unfortunately, this company has been out of business for several years.

Doing an internet search I just discovered the Glaesel GL-07607 Nylon Bass Bag which also has a front zipper. Unfortunately, I can’t find many details about this cover. A web page that shows the cover is: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], but it doesn’t have much information and my other searches on the internet have not come up with any other details either.

It appears that the Glaesel name is a Conn-Selmer product, but their web page has absolutely no information.

Does anyone know anything about this cover?

I'm curious, whats the longest any owner has had a bag for by a given brand. Mooradian? Bobelock?

I had to rexamine when I bought my bag and I think I'm actually closer to 9 years with my Soundwear Performer.
The old green Bob G bag I first had only lasted about 6 months before the handles started ripping out. The newer ones look a whole lot better.

I'm sure the famed Joes House of Sandals bags are the true champ of all bags out there with the longest track record or all makes.

I purchased a Mooradian standard bag in 1996. Eighteen years of pretty heavy use, still going strong.

Zipper on my Soundwear died after about 6 years. 7 years and counting on the Bobelock, which seems to still be pretty much mint. And much, *much* lighter than the Soundwear. Now that I have a trick knee, this matters a lot more than it used to.

Well, as I could not find any more information on the Glaesel GL-07607 Bag, I went ahead and ordered one. It came in today and appears to be well made. I do like the front zipper feature; however, it definitely is not a case that one should use to transport a bass with. It has NO PADDING!

All is not lost, however. I often work a multi night gig at which it is easier to leave my bass on the stage than it is to transport it back and forth each night. In addition, the band stand area is so small and restricted that it is extremely difficult for me to place my heavily padded cover over my bass on stage. (In fact, this area is so small that I had to build my bass amp & speaker into my music stand, so I wouldn’t take up too much room)

Anyway, this Glaesel bag will offer some protection if I leave my ax on the stage overnight. I can still use my heavily padded case during transport to and from the gig. I’ll look into the Bobelock for this.

Of course, the crying shame is that I purchased a new Ritter case several years ago when I played a 4/4 size bass, but never used it. I drug it out of the closet a few days ago and even though my present bass is a large 7/8 size, the Ritter is really loose on it.

It’s a shame that the inexpensive hard shell cases only come in 3/4 size! That would really be the best case in which to transport my ax around.

we have used a cushy bass bag for 8 years now and it has performed well,, starting to show some wear,, but has another year in it. the best part is it has a cordura type shell and wheels,, i treated the shell with 2 camp dry treatments and waterproofed it and so far so good.. once in a while we haul it in the back of the pick up and even in downpours it stays dry as a bone.
it is starting to wear and we were looking for another,but the new cushys are not built like the old ones.. different shell and no wheels.. i am looking at a jaeger .. i know its more exspensive at 388.00 but its a great bag and not just plain black like most,, but its not that bad if you figure you're protecting a bass that is 10 or 15 times that cost.

I am in the process of deciding on a bag, and it's difficult to judge when everything is on line. With my rental I used a Gewa bag, and pretty much don't like it, except for how water proof it is. I am going to be dragging my half size Shen SB150 out a lot, in a the front seat of a Honda Civic Coupe in rain, snow, sleet, ice, and sun.

I am leaning towards a Mooradian for the padding, and reading that it may not fall over like the Gewa does. I am just concerned about how water proof it is and how much it could protect my bass from a little temperature as I move it from a heated room to outside to a cold car than suddenly gets warm in the winter.. etc.

Just rereading the above - I have a Gewa bag for a 1/2 size I rent to students, and it's plenty padded. It says "Premium 12 mm" on the tag, which I guess is the thickness of the padding but I couldn't say for sure. Seems like a fine bag to me.

You can't go wrong with Mooradian. I've had dealings with the company regarding custom handles for the case I carry my AI Ten2 in that they make, and to say that they will go to any length possible to serve the customer is to state the truth - they were great to deal with.

Gewa bags come in a few different grades; the Premium is nicely padded, but the "Classic" is basically a lined cover.

Woot! 10 years now. Both plastic D Rings have broken on the Soundwear, one replaced, one uses a carabiner instead. Fabric is starting to wear through in spots but the zipper is still holding up. Still going!

Hey, @Mark Gollihur, is the bag I have the same as what you sell as your house brand on your web site? I have one fewer decent cases than I have basses and might like to pick up another.

Can you (or anyone) tell me how to tell if my Mooradian is "standard" or "deluxe" and how yours compares in terms of thickness of padding? I looked at mine - say Moordian and an address but not much more than that.
