Double Bass The Best Upright Bass Case

By looking at the pics the Mooradian and the Bobelock looks are very similar, and features too.

How about the weight?

Can anyone compare the two?

I own Mooradian and Bobelock bags. The Mooradian is an industry standard, and is very high quality. However I like the Bobelock a little better, and their bags are reasonably priced. I've been using the Bobelock constantly for about a year and it has held up well so far. The Bobelock is also a little more well padded than my Mooradian standard.

Just a quick double thumbs up for the MESSINA. incredibly LIGHTWEIGHT (I have a rental bass and my wife picks it up sometimes), weather resistant, folds easily for storage (under the piano), VERY well padded, super tough handles, big fat zippers...I have two and am about to order another one. They are both 6-7 years old and look like NEW. I use them nearly every day. I'm so glad I looked around the Web today for all the options and I can see...there is none better for my purposes.
About the only criticism I could give is that the inner fabric lining was a bit "grabby" and took a few splinters off the side edges of a carved bass (The edges of the bass were VERY rough, I had the sides burnished and now it's not a problem) Thanks Bass Doctor! (Matt Bohn, in Felton, CA, does AMAZING double bass work of all types. No job too big or small)
Pay a little more up front and have it last a decade or more.
MADE IN USA...What more to say...
I'm ordering a third bag tomorrow...

I got a Bobelock 7/8 bag for my smaller 7/8 Kolstein and it fits like a glove with plenty of padding. They run a little small, so I took a chance. If you do enough google, you'll find a deal on those. Also have a Messina large 3/4 for a full 3/4 Wilfer and it's great. Both bag and bass are light. It has a nice harder padding that protects well.

Do they both fold up so you can stick them in tight places...?

+1 for Messina. Excellent bag. Lightweight, durable, straps all in the right places, and lots of custom options. If you have trouble with ordering at their site, you can find them on facebook. Or the best is to just call Dave and talk to him, and he'll set you up with the perfect bag. Dave Messina is a great fellow. You won't regret it for a minute. It's the best bag I've ever owned.

I didn't inquire but I bet he could build an awesome Acoustic Image bag with pockets for cables, etc. That is certainly a future consideration for me.

+1 for Tuff Bag 3/4

Actually, +2 since I own 2 of them (one blue and one black). Fits perfectly both my New Standard Cleveland and my 1890's Mirecourt French Bass...

I used to have one of the heavy duty ones with wheels and stuff and I couldn't have been happier since I replaced it. The old one was heavy and sturdy, it made carrying the bass around even more difficult. The Tuff is light but REALLY well padded, handles everywhere. Perfect bag.

I like it more than the Bobelock. It's more expensive but feel much much better. Great padding everywhere.

I am not sure, but actually now that I'm thinking everytime I see that case around there is a problem with it. Zipper, handles, the bottom is worn out etc. I see those around the Symphony and also at the school where I have 6 students in my studio and another 12...maybe at the Classical studio and every year in September we have a Bass Day and bass players come form all over and I clearly remember seeing that type of case laying around all worn out and people complaining about it and asking about better gig bags.
Anyway, I can't say they are all the same but even though I see different labels they sure look pretty identical... I personally think they are just to heavy to begin with and not very well made...

My son has this bag goes out weekly or more to symphony rehearsal for the past 2+ years and it has held up every bit as well as his mooradian. The bag is heavy and more bulky, so works well if you have to walk a long way and have room to pack/unpack as you have to "lay the bass" in vs hanging it over in the upright position. For short carry distance or tight spaces he prefers the mooradian, which does get more use due to the weight difference.

Had a series I that we sold with a bass, the upgrades to the series II are a big improvement especially with the added material in the wheel area preventing excessive wear. Never had a problem with the zippers on either bag.

Still using my performer. 7 years now I guess. Finally showing some wear but still very very functional. Some of the cordura is starting to wear through, a couple of the zipper handles broke, minor stuff. Still going strong otherwise.

Eduardo, your bag was purchased all the way back in 2009 and was indeed a first-generation bag as JTL suggested.

Unfortunately, we did have an issue with a production run of the bags during that period; we discovered, after selling quite a few of them, that many had less-than-perfect stitching and some had been made with alternate (lower quality) zippers without our authorization; as a result, we "canned" that manufacturer and switched to a new, much more reliable one. That is why we now call the bag "Series II" - it has a similar design, but different cosmetics and colors -- and improved features, lighter weight and much better durability, especially when compared to the production run that made us switch.

Bottom line: The bag you bought is not the bag we sell now. Just wanted to clarify.

I'm sorry that your bag did not hold up as well as expected.

PS: I'll also remind you that before you even used that bag, you requested a return, and I granted one - but you did not take advantage of that offer.

Unfortunately, I was one of those people who purchased in 2009. I was only able to use the case a few times and now I can't give it away. Its very bulky, handles are in the wrong place and the zipper is terrible. However I do plan to purchase, today in fact, a new Gollihur Upright Bass Case. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] . I have only read good reviews on this case and I do believe in Gollihur Music for my Upright Bass needs......
