is it heavy?
I have a Kolstein which is on the lighter side, and a Gollihur (real heavy). Do you think The Eastman would be on the lighter side maybe...? I am even considering ordering without the wheels to get it as light as possible.

The Eastman case is right in the middle weight wise. The wheels do make it a bit heavier but not as heavy as CARRYING THE BASS! :) I've had two of these cases on two large basses and the handles are mostly in very useful places, the zippers don't break and the wheels are pretty indestructible.

Just an update, after a year of use:
1. Handles - the two that are on the long zipper side just aren't that effective, either with placement or construction. They're uncomfortable to hold and placement makes the bass off balance. The ones on the opposite side of the bag are great, excellent placement and easy to hold for long periods of time. I could really use an additional handle (like the vertical one at the bottom front of the bag, or a horizontal one) somewhere near where the neck/fingerboard meets the upper bout.

2. Pockets - I didn't really put any thought into looking at the dimensions as this has NEVER been a concern with any other bass bag I've owned (3 Mooradians and a Messina). The bow pocket is too short for my bow case, my wheel doesn't fit in the wheel pocket. The lower wheel pocket also does not fit a standard size folding music stand. So, as I'm wheeling my bass to the subway on my way to the gig, my bow is unsecured, my music stand is bouncing around loose. Additionally, the velcro closures make one handed opening and closing a real problem. And velcro, though cheaper to replace than zippers, fails (generally) a lot sooner than a zipper.

3.Storage - no more folding the bag and shoving it under the piano, this bag retains its shape and mass even with the bass out of the case.

I have a Kolstein that is pretty old and still going!
I ended up getting a Mooradian deluxe which I thought was very expensive but I am very satisfied with it.
I still use my Kolstein though. I like it because although it has one inch of padding it's still very light weight and easy to just squeeze in anywhere. I've had it for 14 years and I think I can still get a few more years out if it.

i LOVE my Soundwear Performer!! Fits like a custom made one, and it holds the temperature incredibly good. I had it out
in the cold for like a half an hour and when i put my had in to feel how the bass fell, it was feeling like putting my hand indoors again!
I got jealous of my bass ;)

it's time to get a new gigbag for my 7/8's size bass.
I have a 3/4 Mooradian for my smaller bass, and I love everything about that case. And what I really love about it, is that it is super light!!!

By looking at the pics the Mooradian and the Bobelock looks are very similar, and features too.

How about the weight?

Can anyone compare the two?

I recently bought a Messina bag and really like it. It is much lighter than my old one. The padding isn't as think (3/4 compared to 1"), but I think the padding is a better quality. He makes several different sizes or custom sizes. It has a nice profile to it. Since its made by him, its nice to know the craftsman and actually have a personal relationship with the guy.

I may have already weighed in on this but the Messina bag is great. After 2+ years of hard use my bag shows very little wear. It fits very well and offers great protection.

Greg, my Messina last around 10 and the only reason I gave it up was the long zipper screwed up and it was gonna cost me at least a bill to get it fixed. Plus I thought I'd try something new. When I need a new case I'm going back to Messina....

Good to know. So far the bag shows no wear and tear other than dirt. :D
