The Big Free Music Related Software Thread

Can't forget the Guitar Pro... I love this program, for learning tricky parts and for being able to slow down without losing pitch.

Demo version only, you still gotta pay for the whole deal

Guitar Pro 5

This is a stupid-easy drum kit... not particularly realistic, but I'm sacrificing for the sake of simplicity. Freeware doesn't let you mix down, but I wouldn't use it for real, just practice. It's only $20 for the full version, though.

Rhythm Rascal

Neat little Java thingie to jam to, if you want to practice your solo stuff.

Absolute fretboard trainer. I paid for the full version of this, but the trial version is pretty handy. Learn your stuff.

is there any software that will allow you to listen to just the bass in a song?

Just use some good equalizer. Transcribe! is a pretty good software for that. iTunes also has a surprisingly good equalizer. Just experiment with different settings and you'll find the best one for you. Mixing of the song also affects the outcome a lot.If the mix is bad, you won't have very good results. So experiment with a song that is mixed well :)

Free download for great ear training programs (basic and advanced). Not just intervals. Adds chord progressions and key of your choice, then you pick out the note or interval (also movable "do" for Solfege training)

Thank Alain Benbassat (great last name) and download at http://www.miles.be/

Website has additional free info available and another ear training program for purchase.
