I have to tell you, I got extremely lucky, I guess. Wood used, placement of the pickup, alignment of the strings [not only in how the strings go down the centerline of the body, but distance from the fingerboard from nut to bridge, for a first project, it couldn't have turned out any better than it did! I thank God for things falling into place when there really was no plans drawn out. Well, no real plans, and no templates. All free hand, from the body design to when the router was used for neck, pickup, and whatever else. I had a professional at a local music store hook up the electronics [Bartolini Deap Tone pickup and preamp] and he said that it sounded and looked better than some of the basses that were up on the wall for sale. QUITE a compliment! The wood is Birdseye Maple, so it's a pretty hard wood. I guess the Bartolini helps out there as well as the Bartolini preamp with Bass, Mid, and Treble pots. It actually sounds good enough that a person I know asked to use it on his second CD. He had two songs that he wanted a fretless for, but doesn't have one himself. I guess that's compliment enough. He's the leader of this group and sings while playing the bass, and has been in some type of group for years.

yeah, i dug all my 4's before i moved on. to be honest, the doubleneck ric has one of the best bass tones i've ever heard. i'd play that thing all the time if it had at least a low b.

Yeah, its and absolute slapping beast. I am yet to find another bass apart from a stingray, sterling, jazz that is easier to slap. Only down side is that is really heavy and the wide neck took some getting used to. Does anyone know how i can find out what year it was made??

Sorry to bung this up here again - it got squished earlier in this thread - so here's my lovely Warwick, still kicking ass after all these years, I even had it stolen two and a half years a go - and I got it back by tipping off the local pawnbrokers - the stupid druggies who stole it didn't think they'd get caught trying to sell it two days after they burgled my flat - anyway this is a nice shot that really shows the grain:
