I have nothing to add other than I've been reading every thread on here about the new Subway amp!! I gotta say, its been great to be a bassist with all the newest advancements the last few years(especially being into gear)

Lighter, louder and more efficient is winning out, I'm willing to bet there will be a class D amp released that will sound and *feel* spot on like a tube amp if there isn't one already being made right now!

The closest class D I've found in that regard is the Genz Benz Streamliner.

I'm interested in the Subway too but not as a replacement for anything. My WA Scout and Ampeg SVTs aren't going anywhere.

I enjoyed comparing these amps, but am sticking with the walkabout. Where is this purge, anyway? No more walkabouts for sale than usual-
after seeing this thread I thought I might find a second one on the cheap, but that's not the case in the classifieds...

I have a WA. Its not going anywhere.. Im actually looking for another older amp maybe an ashdown amb500 or something .. No Class D beats my old crown MA1200 and Preamp rack just yet

Did an a/b with puma 900, walkabout, aguilar db750 and thunderfunk 750a.

The thunderfunk won. Tough, killer clean meaty tone and full eq, etc. I notice a difference in feel and heft to the notes with the thunderfunk compared to any class D I've tried. The ultimate gigging head ime/imo.

Try walking 4 blocks in a foot of new snow at 0 degrees F, to a restaurant gig in downtown Montreal around the holidays, hauling your rig after parking at a metered street spot. I always loved the Walkabout Scout 12 I had until the band outgrew it. I used it mainly for jazz and it did great for that. I wish I had it back, but I've found out my Markbass combo does the trick.

Please excuse me as I'm a bit of a heathen here as I've never had the chance to use a Walkabout, but can anyone tell me how a WA compares in tone/feel to an early Eden WT400 (which I do have) and is considered (afaik) a warm SS/hybrid amp.

I love my Thunderfunk 550 and my WalkAbout amps. The tone and EQ options are insane on the TF. Great for DB & doubling gigs - clear and warm, modern yet vintage.

The WA just has that something extra for that vintage valvey goodness. I haven't gigged my Fender Studio Bass amp since I bought the WA. I also opted not to buy a Monique Pre since I couldn't bring myself to sell the WA if I did.

When did 15lbs start to become 'heavy'?? Sit the head on your cab & wheel it to the gig, easy.

PS. Anyone tried a toboggan for carting gear in the snow? ;-)

Well no i havent.... but the wa is no 300 tube watts. I see why people would want to get rid of it for a smaller lighter form factor. I did. I sold my 36lb mpulse 600 for my 5lb 800watt subway. I think that made sense

As much as I'd like a Subway, my Walkabout and M6 aren't going anywhere (though I've been trying to unload the 15" combo can locally.) Those two do everything I need at the moment.

Ok I know Mesa came out with a Newer and smaller more powerful amp in the Subway but is it reason enough to get rid of your Walkabouts,The WA is a great amp and IMO is a bit more tastier than the Subway,I got to A/B both and Mesa has hit home runs with both amps, I guess the Subway with its 800 watts is the hook but in all honesty do you really need that much wattage,I have gigged with a GK 400RB for over 2 decades and never needed anything bigger and it's only 200 watts and that was small to outdoor big shows with 3 to 7 piece bands, I'm gonna keep my WA...There's gotta be a reason a WA will cost you 1300 and a Subway 699,so if anyone is in the market for a great amp WA are popping up all over the place!! I really like both amps tho..

I've had a Walkabout for many years and it isn't going anywhere at this point. If your'e selling your WA just because of weight, then I might suggest a gym membership rather than a new amp. Honestly, amps like the Walkabout and Eden WT550 are so portable, I just can't see giving one up based on weight alone. The WA does have some some volume restrictions, so I can understand getting rid of one if you just can't get enough clean volume out of that amp.

I definitely noticed a WA purge way before this thread existed...I was even texting back and forth with another TB'er over the "wow look at how cheap this one or that one were going for" sort of observations.
I was originally planning on getting a D800 simply because I now play dance music in casinos instead of rock/metal in loud bars, and I'm constantly told to turn my Strategy down. Nothing to do with the weight, but if I don't need to drag it in, just figured on gettin something smaller that will work. But really I also don't need 800watts, or even 400watts (if that's what the D800 is at 8ohm). After seeing WA's kinda flood the market, I'm thinking of just going back to one, I had one once before.

I hear you there. I've been playing some big amps over the last couple of years but have brought my WA to the last 3 gigs. I pair mine with a Dually 215 and have PLENTY on tap. And that tone…oh the tone.

At the last gig, the tech blended my DI with a mic'd signal. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

I couldnt believe Pedullaplayer had that red faced one with gigbag in excellent shape down to $450 then $440! I had to get a new wireless otherwise I would have snagged it .
There were a couple others also down in the 400's. And GC currently has one for 450, got some tiny rash, but still....
