the bizarre creature thread

there is this one bug i saw when i was camping a couple weeks ago that was about 1.5'' long with big, curley, inch long antenna's and it looked like it had little shoes on... my dad said it was a "wood beatle" or "wood bug" but i looked those up on google images and they dont look like it =(
I'm going to go against my better judgment and side with failson on this one, spiny insects that can kill small children are pretty freaking gross.
His reaction was based on the millipedes feeling like velcro when you peel them off you, and those guys are harmless
ANd the 'pedes are smooth, not spiny. The feel really neat, actually.

I wouldn't call something that secretes cyanide through it's skin "harmless."
That metallic, bitter-almond smell that milipedes have? That'd be the cyanide!

i had heard of the giant squid, but recently saw a special on this thing. its bigger by body mass, but not by length. maybe old news, but it was new to me.

hm, I'd say I'm feel it's about 50% awesome, 50% makes me want to run away screaming and/or smash it with a rock.
