The black lines on the neck poket.

I'm just curious what is the black line line on the neck poket?
Why is it there?

I thought it could have been made by a magic marker, but it looks more like overspray...

In manufacturing environments , when there is a specific defect or condition that is being sorted for or checked , a “witness mark” is often used as evidence of inspection. This might be the case.

QC is done by sampling, so most of the goods that reached the final consumer have never actually been in the hands of a quality inspector - including cars!! (that’s why I find those “how did this make it through QC?” Comments so amusing).

You mean around the edges?
When finishing a body, it gets screwed to a board that covers the neck pocket so it's dimensions aren't changed by the paint and clearcoat.
The black marker line (or paint pen) keeps the almost white body wood from being visible through the tiny gaps.

That's what happens when you don't play enough... your bass gets molded... starting by the neck pocket...
