I felt a bit similar, but decided that the product as delivered was already very usable. Everything extra or added from this point would be 'bonus'. Your milege may vary.

I did finally hear back last week with an invoice but declined to buy it because between the time i sent the initial email and the reply, I started looking at software solutions...mobius (vsti), ambiloop (standalone), loopyllama (vsti)...

I've decided to use ambiloop..works flawlessly on a toshiba laptop with only 1gig of ram.....so far, between this and my 'rang+ I'm good and saved a lot of $$. plus it's easy to route vocals, guitar, etc thru my firepod....link up to reaper and/or audiomulch for processing/recording...I'm loving it so far. gotta use a virtual audio cable or rearoute asio in reaper since ambiloop is not a vsti...but still..it rocks.

Timely bump! I ordered one for myself for Christmas also. According to the tracking number it was delivered to my mailbox today. I'll post some impressions when I have a solid evening with the pedal.

I'd been wavering on the looper decision for a long time. At first I was committed to the idea of a Looperlative LP 1 along with a fancy MIDI controller. Then I transitioned to being 'certain' that the newest Ableton (plus high-end sound interface, of course ;)) was the route for me. In the end I realized I'd spent a whole year in gear fantasy land and figured I'd take a chance on this new pedal with a bit of personality and lots of lineage. And I think that being a simpler approach than what I was first considering will be to my benefit in the beginning....

I feel you. I was holding off on getting a looper as well, having decided that I use the looping part of my SMMH much more than the delay. I didn't consider going the software route because I really just wanted a dedicated pedal.

I'm glad I held out for the Boomerang III

yeah, i'm now coming back to pedals...using my old boomerang more and more and not using the software, though it's more flexible 'in the box' with powerful software it's more work and worry live...the pedal is simple and working within limitations is a good thing sometimes...my next looper pedal will have midi sync though (need percussion in my solo set and the roland hpd-10 looks sweet)...I've got a line on an ecoplex now, if that falls through the lp1 looks killer.

I just got a Rang III and I really like it. It reminds me why I like the Rang so much in the first place. It is so intuitive and easy to use. The new version sounds wonderful too. I was also surprised by how small it is compared to the last rev. That was a nice plus.

The only real negative for me is that there is no way to save loops. An SD/CF slot would have been amazing. That seems like a miss to me - but everything else is a win in my book.

I dig the Roland Handsonics- I use an HPD-15 with my LP-1...the upcoming LP-2 will be a pedalboard looper that has MIDI Sync as well. Only thing is you are limited to the onboard samples unless you plug into a MIDI sound bank and use the Handsonic as a MIDI controller. There was apparently a similar device new at NAMM called the Wavedrum or something- haven't checked it out yet.

I use Boomwhackers - they're much less expensive :D

watch the vids on the wave drum, nothing like the rolands...it's cool but not the same thing.

well, this is ever evolving into a simple/quick setup solo rig for me...something I can set up fast for open mics and short opening gigs but also expand on for my own gigs with more setup time.

right now, since the 4th when I typed the reply above, I'm using my 'rang plus with a small/light weight mixer and I'm gold...almost.

I've now hooked up my taylor acoustic w baggs m1 into a delay, phase and octave to one ch 1, a beta58 and a green bullet mic to ch 2 (with an isolated mic combiner), 2-lp congas clamp mic'd with 57's thru another combiner to ch 3, my rang hooked up to the effects send and back to ch 4 on a small peavey pv6. everything hooked and clamped to one mic stand sans the congas and my acoustic amp/monitor. easy and portable and i'm able to kick out some wicked jams in my songs. for foh I split off each mic and instrument and use the aux send on the rang unit so the foh guy can mix me to the room. I have to control my rang (for foh loop feed) with the foot wheel with this setup...something I'd like to fix because I can fade smoother with my mixer knob/fader. I did one opening gig where I just gave the foh guy my mix and a he wished for more control over my vocals (they're dry for my monitoring needs) so I decided to try splitting everything off...it works pretty well. I don't loop every song..gotta have some dynamics in the show when it's just me...

for short gigs I ditch the congas and just do percussion on my my guitar or chucking the strings..maybe a bit of beatbox for texture..the roland units are too much $$ for me right now but will be what I add later cause they can sound as good as my congas plus have lots of other sounds...plus they're small in comparison.

I have a larger yamaha mixer than allows me to not use the mic combiners (more channels, can add bass and not have to rely on the octave pedal, but it's much heavier/larger and requires another stand/table). I'll probably go this route for full-on gigs...maybe even add a small drum kit.

just for fun, here's something cool to watch..this guy is great with looping. my music is more brash and funky...more vocal/guitar oriented than this, and my setup is way more simple and acoustic in nature...but this guy represents what I like about looping...making music not just ambient noise

Oh, and as far as the Boomerang not being able to save loops- while it's a nice feature, the Boomerang is definitely geared to being a real performance looper- a live tool that's very much like an instrument, so the ability to store loops (as you would want when practicing) is a non-vital feature design-wise.

I've seen a couple vids by that guy- good stuff. I use the smaller version of the Gordius foot controller he uses, and found him when searching for info on them.

Well, I had the opportunity to try out an EHX 2880 before the Rang III was released. It was pretty difficult to work with, and although I'm sure if I had a few hours to play around with it I could get it, I think the Rang III is just much more user friendly. I had it working in only a few minutes.

Being that they're about the same price, I would take the Boomerang III. If for anything, the unit is self contained and works as a stompbox, where as the 2880 needs a foot controller.

Just got my 'Rang III'. What a quantum leap over the original Rang. MUCH quieter, much smaller, much better 'signal through' tone. Wonderful unit for live use or practice.

The cool thing is that if you ignore all the fancy stuff, it is completely easy to use... you will be recording and stacking loops within a minute out of the box. I also like the quickness of the footswitches for recording loops, so you can nail the start and end of loops exactly with no delay, etc.

There is some funky stuff... no 'on/off' switch, they eliminated the nice 'foot roller' volume control, etc., but that's minor stuff. Not cheap, but extremely high quality, and perfect for those looking for 'practice or live performance' capability.

Cool, thanks! I've actually been using a 2880 for about three years. Like it a lot more than anything else I've tried so far, including the JamMan, RC50 and LP-1. I went from the JamMan to the 2880, so I found the 2880 miles easier to use.

From looking at the spec sheet, it really seems as though the Rang III has pretty much all of the same features except for the master and serial loops. Was thinking about checking out the Rang but based on features alone they are so similar it's hard to justify picking one up. This stuff is good to know.
