Guitar and bass became popular because they are pretty easy to learn. I am still a beginner but I can play after a year. I honestly think it would take twice as long to get to the level I am at now with violin. That said I love a good violin tune but it’s like gymnastics. I enjoy seeing others do it because I know I can never do it.

Hello bass lovers. Thinking about getting a combo amp. It will be used as a practice and small gig amp. My Budget is $500. I've been looking at these two:
Ampeg BA-210v2 2x10" 450-watt Bass Combo Amp
Peavey MAX 300 2x10" 300-watt Bass Combo Amp
If anybody has any experience with either of these, please let me know what you think. I play Peavey Cirrus 6 string basses. I'm also open to other options. Thanks!

Let me be the first to welcome you to the hallowed halls of the Combo Club, jimmyfwl! You have come to the right place with your query and it is a good one.
I have personal experience with the Ampeg, though I wish I did with this current Peavey line. I’ll give you what I know and we’ll see if anyone comes along with some Peavey info. KaraQ owns what I believe is a Max 250 115 combo (KQ, your Fearless Leader is requesting a review of your combo, if you would be so kind).
I owned two of these for a short time, circa 2015-16. The new line had just come out and while it was one of the best-sounding combos I ever had the pleasure of playing through, teething issues abounded.
As mentioned, I owned two because after the first one contracted serious electrical issues, the replacement produced a terrible buzzing sound, even at low level. That was enough for me to return the amp, but with the first one, when not cutting out it was an excellent-sounding amp.
Understand, Ampeg’s Loud Technologies (now owned by bulletproof Yamaha) has improved the quality control and have far fewer problems. I say buy with confidence, especially if you can a good price on either a new unit or a gently used one of the last year or two. Try Guitar Center’s used section for a possible winner.
The BA-210 v2 has great punch with those two tens, a lot of power, some classic Ampeg features and SVT-ish tone based on their Legacy preamp, and sturdy chassis. There’s a lot to love.
As we await a Peavey review, let me mention another model that for the price you may be interested in looking at. One would most certainly be the Fender Rumble 500 combo. 350 watts as an 8-ohm combo, but the Eminence two tens are able to handle the juice and it is powerful! A different tonal flavor then the Ampeg’s, but just as nice. I currently own Fender combos as well.

I do have the Max 250
Not sure how it will compare to the 300; but I'm assuming it'd be pretty similar, other than the normal sonic differences between 1x15 & 2x10.
I'm really loving the amp so far, even though I don't get to push it very hard in my apartment (neighbors
). Not really sure how to describe the sound, but its very, sort of, Peavey-like? I like it personally, and every bass I've run through it has sounded great; especially improved are my active basses, due to having their own input. Particularly my SR305E & AEB10E.Works fantastic with all of my Thunderbirds too
At first I thought I would just disable the tweeter with the switch & leave it off, but I found it more useful than expected, especially on my Thunderbirds that are down-tuned; I don't have to add more treble via the EQ to get the sound I want. But I do have to turn off the Kosmos-C (on-board octaver) for those basses, and usually the 5-strings, the lowest notes become too...unsharp? Not really muddy, but start to lose definition, I guess.
May not be an issue with 2x10s?
Not had any functional issues, everything's working perfectly so far, definitely happy with it thus far.
It does everything I hoped it would, better than I expected it to

KQ, thank you so much for the detailed review. I agree with you, it sounds challenging to describe the “Peavey” sound, compared to maybe Ampeg or Fender. Doesn’t mean it’s not worthy of praise though, as many bass players have relied on Peavey bass amps for decades.
As for you lacking a number, I’ll check as soon as I get to Command Central later today. You sure deserve one!

My family combo amp picture as of this morning. I say 'this morning' because my goal of a combo for each day of the week may cause an update in the near future. Dunno for sure, preliminary discussions have begun. Regardless, I like this bunch as an accurate reflection of my many moods.
