I don’t think Yamaha’s gotten around to revamping the Ampeg site yet - the home page is new, but as soon as you click through to the products, the site looks the same as before. The design must be a decade old at least.

I suspect a major refurbishment is in the works, and that it will coincide roughly with the official launch of these combos, and maybe some other products as well. It’s no secret that Yamaha’s had their ear to the ground since they aquired Ampeg, and listened carefully to customer input. These combos are the first indication of the shape of things to come, and it’s looking hopeful, IMO.

Yep, and here's that ear you're talking about. I've been a part of this group for a while now and have voted (or not) on many an idea. Take a look if you find time and see what our fellow brethren are kicking around.

I thought I would post this combo I picked up over the weekend. I traded my Jeff Berlin combo along with a Peavey 5150 head, that was collecting dust, for this AER Amp One. It's a single owner amp only about 5 months old, basically new. The previous owner just didn't "bond" with it. The amp is very solidly built, and despite having a small footprint is still about 30lbs... I imagine partly due to being a class AB amp. The amp sounds way bigger than it's size too - incredibly full sound for such a small package.

Yogi, I've missed ya on TV all these years, nice to see ya back and playing bass! I think you picked up an outstanding combo, and with your M9 and Broughton, I'd say you're ready to begin jamming with peoples sooner rather than later. I've got a membership number with your name on it if you're interested. You've already posted a pic, so let me know you'd like to belong to our 'lil club and I'll make it happen. We're not all looking/listening for the same thing. If we were there'd only be one amp-with many 'lawsuit' clones. BTW, I learned this from Capt. Obvious. That said, I've owned 2 Ampeg bass amps(neither pic mine): a BA 112 v1-like this: (50W, 1x12")

and a mid 70's Blue Line SVT/810 'Fridge'. I didn't like either one-tone or weight. I fully realize that the SVT/810 is the "Holy Grail" to many bassists. But not to me. Hells bells and cockleshells, I think the Kasino sounds better than the SVT rig did. I'm happy as a pig in[stuff]with my Rumbles and the complete lack of hernias involved in schlepping them to(wherever). Everyone to their own sack...er, bag. YMMV. Yes, I know it's not a 'Blue Line'. It's the onliest pic I found.

And that v 1 Ba combo was raved by many who thought it was the best amp in that line. I never played one, but am a sucker for a good 12" speaker. In other news, if you still owned that big rig you could probably sell it for enough to keep you in Hawaiin shirts for the next century!

Y&N. Most people don't want the big[stuff]any more. Unless you're young, dumb, and______(or have roadies), with most of the few gigs happening being one-niters, big[stuff]ain't worth the hassle. Esp. since on most large gigs, it's all going FOH anyway. Only 'need' a stage monitor, like a R200c/500c, to hear yerself.
BTW, I've never used IEM's. Dunno if I'd like 'em or not.

I wasn't sure either until I used them. They are DAH BOMB! (imho) Bring my own i-pad, set my own mix, doesn't get much better...

Me neither and I’d be fine I never do. Maybe they’re okay, but it’s one less thing I have to worry about.

While I won’t disagree with you about downsizing on stage and in the recording studio, I honestly don’t think you’ll ever see a love for those big rigs completely go away. At least I hope they don’t. It’ll kill off my impressionable teen years!

Don't have an i-pad either. I'm a dinosaur.

Some have Android compatible apps also. I bought a cheap, used i-pad just for mixing and find I use it for much more now that I have it.

Hey red, how are ya? Why on earth are you wearing out on the Acoustic combo? Could it be a) the weight, b) too heavy to carry around, or c) you're forced to have to shop for a heavy-duty truck just to haul the amp around.

How's it sounding for ya though? Tell us, what's going on.

The notch filter and I aren’t agreeing some days, wish it could just be disabled. Weight is fine, maybe it just needs a timeout

I can see the big stuff being needed for outdoor festivals and such. But beyond that there seems to be a move toward moderating volume. Like you said unless you’re young you don’t want to be completely saturated by sound for two plus hours at a bar or club. You want to be able to converse without shouting into someone’s ear.
I applaud that. For years I always wondered why every bar band had to completely blow doors. I mean I like music and I might even like your band but I don’t want hearing loss either.
