well mike, here's the trick. if you pour the coffee and you see the pouring stream of coffee being a little reddish-brown it's pretty fresh, if it's just brown/darkbrown leave it alone. unless it's a machine, then u don't know what is going on. we have to make our own.

right on man.....thanks for the tip. you can bet i will be checking the color from now on before i drink that stuff at work.

Coffee should be black, hot, and strong enough to etch glass.

Why else do you think Boy Scouts can do so much damage, if not for the fact of a huge amount of blood in their caffine stream.

It ain't that bad (for convenience store kawfee)

of course it's not complete till one adds an (un)healthy dose
of SkyRocket "Vanilla Vroom" concentrated caffeine syrup
(1 oz = 100mg caffeine )

Double Espressos are all I drink when I venture outside Finland.

Closest thing to decent cuppa o' coffee, really - standard espressos do nothing except leave me wondering if they're out of cups and have to use shot glasses instead

OK....this works.

I went into the coffee room this morning, and started pouring some coffee down the drain. It was dark brown, like dirty motor oil. Just to verify, I took a sip form a cup and it tasted like some crap.

Yeah, that would be it. For optimum coffee, you need to use freshly ground beans. The ground up stuff in the tin can just can't do it.

Whenever I've traveled to Germany I've really enjoyed the coffee. Dark and strong, with a bit of brown foam floating on top. I mix it with a little bit of sugar, and kondensmilch (or kaffeesahne). Kondensmilch is not the same as condensed milk sold in the US; I'm still trying to find something equivalent. I had really good coffee in Amsterdam, too, and the coffeehouses have other interesting menu items as well.

In Paris, the coffee that I've had was more like espresso and was always served in a small cup. It was good, too.

The Dutch have a great coffee called Dowe Egbert that has a very distinctive flavour. It's really nice.

On the whole, I find coffee generally much more flavorful here than back home. Lavazza is another good brew.

Back home, I drank coffee with milk and sugar. Over here, I drink it black. Expresso I drink black. It's a different drink over here.
