"Burn" is the most disappointing album ever for me. After the excitement and glory of "Machine head" and "Made in Japan", Deep Purple switched to muscular dreariness. It was the start of muscle/sweat/big hair/grunting rock. I find it utterly uncool. Of course Coverdale also bears some responsibility, but as a bass player I tend to blame Hughes. After Roger Glover, he was shallow, dull, superficial and sheerly uninteresting.
