I wouldn't pay Sarzo in washers, but Mik Sweeney was a very underrated bass player. I Was just listening to 'Because You're Young' earlier to day - by coincidence - and marvelling at his use of slides. Totally unique style. Good call.

Coolest player? This guy has the best fingering technique I have ever seen, and such stage prescence that his lead vocalist - the supposed 'most beautiful man in the world' - used to sit back and let him run the show. Wonderfully creative player as well.

Two polar opposite bass players but both immensely important in my own appreciation of the instrument.

JJ Burnel - 'Rattus Norvegicus'. (Be prepared to hear the dirtiest bass tone ever committed to vinyl)
Mick Karn - 'Tin Drum' or 'Oil On Canvas - Japan Live'.
Incidentally, its no myth about JJ Burnel's temper and disrespectful fans. I 've twice seen him chasing people around arena's whilst in the middle of a set.
