The CORT Club!!!

Just got a Cort GB75. I'm really impressed with the neck playability and more importantly floored by the B string. The B is better than my Lakland DJ5 and its 35". I had one of these before and it was ok, but this newer one has a different preamp and the B is equal with E string in definition and tension.

The electronics are just so so though. I'm going to start by replacing the preamp and go from there. I paid 300 used and its worth every penny and then some. I've owned some pretty expensive boutique basses that can't touch the B string or the neck on this bass. I might buy a GB35 if the B string is this good.

Did I get lucky or are you guys having the same experience?

I'll post a picture ASAP - picking up tomorrow an A6. I tried it a couple of nights ago and it was just simply WOW! Mint condition (as new IMO) and a good price :smug:

Can't wait to get my new baby home and then on a few gigs :bassist:

My first 6 (had a 5 for about 13 years) too - hope the transition isn't too hard!

The string spacing might feel a little goofy at first...

When reading up I saw some people saying it had narrow spacing. It felt to be just a tiny bit wider than what I've been using if anything as my 5 has very narrow spacing already so I'm hoping this will be a non-issue. I don't slap and never will, just finger style for me so the tighter the better really (that sounds pretty dodgy)!

Its easier than you think! ;) And you will not be disappointed by the A6. It is a very user friendly bass.

Good to know!

Reading up on the stock pre and PUs (Bart MK-1) some people report that it can be a bit aggressive, even 'clanky' on the treble and lacking definition in the bass. All of these seem to be Ibanez 505/506 users where the pickups are normally installed the 'wrong' way round.

How does it work out on the A6? I play mainly Soul and Jazz so I'll probably be getting some La Bella Flats (760FL-CB) for it which should hopefully solve this (if it's even an issue). If not, I may get the 5.4AP pre and MK6CBC pu set.

Any opinions welcome!

This is kinda true - if you switch off the preamp. With the preamp on, you can get tons of different tones out of this instrument. I play in a reggae band and can assure you that I can produce a very heavy bass sound. Plus mine has a killer B string.

As for the C string, who would expect any heavy bass on those high notes? That's not what this string is made for.

I thought that switch only turned off the active EQ?

I have a pre-switch A4 .... one of the best besses I've ever owned. It doesn't have the switch or the maple-top (the wings are solid semi-figured maple .. heavy as a manhole cover!). The preamp can be a little ... hmmm ... resonant? There is most certainly a resonant peak going on, and with mine I can hear a good deal of the "back side" of the strings ... the harmonics that are actually on the opposite side of your finger (between your finger and the nut).

When I blend the pickups 50/50 or when I use the neck-only, ramp up the midrange control and the bass control, that thing can be downright angry. I think some of that may have to do with the amount of signal output strength. If you reduce EQ settings instead of increase eq settings, the output power isn't as high and the bass becomes much more well mannered. But when you push the eq controls up to around max, that thing can get downright pissed off. Wild, ringing harmonics like crazy!

The fact that A4s have a MASSIVE bridge (mine has the older 2-piece) and a brass nut along with a totally one piece neck-though construction all the way to the tip of the head may have a lot to do with the amount of resonance and crazy sustain these A-series Corts produce.

They are pretty versatile, just keep an eye (ear?) on the output levels if you're concerned about to much anger-bass.
