i can see that this thread has turned into a horrible car accident - you don't want to look but apparently you have to. And along with it too much of the haters hating. That was never the spirit of the post and most of you know that. In my experience insecurity is what breeds contempt.

I am not even going to address the posts here there is no longer any point. At least somehow I went from a know-nothing arrogant, condescending dweeb - with questionable sexual preferences and a small dick - who obviously couldn't play - to apparently being compared favorably playing-wise to Michael Manring. I will take it.

The truth is the truth is the truth - but apparently we all have our own versions of the truth. Kind of a shame sometimes...

Also those are not monster chops. Granted, it's more difficult than your average pop song, but I regularly listen to bass players who would wipe the floor with that sorta playing and they do it on adult-sized basses too. I'm sure you couldn't play this, check the solo at 4:17, but really any of is probably 'beyond' your capabilities. If you pull it off on one of your child-sized basses I'd still give you credit.

He plays a $400 or something Dean bass on this, 34" scale of course (I wish I could get an FL version lol).

Maybe I can attribute it to piano lessons as a kid, but I don't have any ergonomic issues with a 35" scale bass and I apparently have small hands (but long fingers). So I dunno. Obviously if something doesn't feel right, I'd switch, but I wouldn't do it just for the sake of the numbers. I don't think "chops" has anything to do with the scale of the bass. At the end of the day whether it's 32" or 35" or whatever, it's the same instrument. If there are ergonomic issues as a result of scale, then yeah, switching to a shorter scale probably WOULD improve one's chops. But if there's no physical difference or limitation, then no.

Everybody's different. There was this myth in the snowboarding world about how the proper height of a snowboard should be just below your chin or some crap like that. I don't even remember. But it totally disregards weight. So if you're tall and thin, suddenly you're stuck with this monster snowboard that's potentially as much as 10 centimeters too long. Or vice versa. I got "better" when I got a board that was short enough where I could comfortably turn, because it now fit my weight rather than my height.

So I can understand somewhat of a correlation between size/ergonomics and ability, but I think it only goes so far and if someone is going to throw some arbitrary scale length at me as a prerequisite for being Chopsy McGee, whatever dude. You play your bass and I'll play mine. There's nothing to debate, really. What are we debating? Physics versus personal preference? :shrug:

You were not being compared playing-wise with Michael Manring. Just as someone who represents themselves as a professional. It's clear you'd rather call everyone "haters" than to take in what has been said here, but you're right- the truth is the truth. The massive amount of condescension you have repeatedly displayed is what bothers people, and it's not something they misinterpreted or made up. It's something you need to work on if you want to effectively communicate with anyone here.

I'm going to close this here before more folks who felt insulted start throwing more wood on the fire. You want folks to at least keep an open mind and come away possibly learning something about medium-scale basses. You should do the same about the way you communicate.
