The Dude Pit club?

Was Redbird

Had some of my best Forum memories there, made a lot of friends, made a sub community, then created our own country (Gibson Bass forum - Last Bass OutPost, Vintage Guitars & Bass).

I tried to see the best in people, but it turned out wrong. Some things are more powerful than positive vibes.

Still it was a great place filled with great people and wish the Dude luck (I am not a hater)

Steve helped greatly with Lakland, Dark Stars, Thomas Strings etc..
Unfortunately, nothing ever stays the same and most moved on.

In better times-

Got any pics of Steve licking basses? :)

Yeah, I was a 'pitter.

now were getting on track!

I have Steve hooked up on Facebook,
I think he's on block cause I don't want the kids to accidentlt read his updates ;)

Guilty pitter here from the early days lurking in the news feeds.

I always felt special because Steve made me a personal video telling me to perform an unnatural/impossible act on myself when I dared ask a hard question.

In all seriousness, drugs can make you do really really bad things to people who trust/care about you. I think we all hope The Dude is in a better place in his life, and at the very least we thank him for the memories created in his club house. Sometimes Tom Wolfe was right on the money.

As usual, Lucy sums it up nicely, and with a wink:

was a neat place before the wheels fell off

even if i always thought the name sounded like a gay bar

cheers
froovs

You're a good egg froover, hope you're doing well.

As with with most things in life, there were good times and bad times. However, without the Dude Pit, these basses (DPLE I and DPLE II) would have never existed. Both are long gone, but they were terrific basses just the same. I hope whoever has them is enjoying them...

I went over to The Dudepit from the Fender Forum days. I wasn't as a prolific poster as many, but I had my fun and did my share of business with Steve.

It really taught me a lot, not just about basses but about life as well.

Tedthebassplayer, from the Pit.

I for one wont be clicking that link. I maintain many friendships I built at the Pit, several of which I will be seeing in person again in a few weeks at NAMM. There was an air of respect, trust, and camaraderie that is simply impossible with the masses here. That being said, the Pit died LONG before whatever version is still sitting there taking up server space, and attempting to revisit it's vibe through some stagnant site would be folly.

Spoken like a guy who could use some new patio furniture.

LOL, Tim, what a fitting joke. If you remember, my grand transgression was to dare ask what was up with the junk/patio furniture banners. That resulted in a 5 minute, crack-fueled, curse fest of a youtube video telling me to perform an impossible act on myself for daring to question the great meth-head behind the curtain.

Still a tragedy to me, but at least I've been able to maintain some of the great connections I made there. See you at NAMM beeches!

But then again. It didn't help matters when you told the owner of the board what he could do with himself in the chat room, especially when you had only been a member there for about what... a week?

The original Dudepit. Man, what a blast. It originally formed with about 6 people but grew into over 4000 membership.

But that's all beside the point. Yes, but the downfall of the pit was the result of drug and alcohol abuse. No doubt about it. things got unraveled, money misused, untrust, denial. etc. Way to much to get graphic about. It ended up being a bad scene. But when it was dying out, one thing I noticed is that it not only brought out the best in some, but also the worst in others.

But the only reason the old PIT is still up is because EZboard had been paid so much money, that when it crashed, the board owner formed the version II and when the first PIT came back alive EZ board wouldn't reimburse for down time, but credited for the down time, so it's going to be up and open for quite a while yet.

Are you serious, Tim? That whole thing was a joke, and EVERYONE involved knows it! A drunken Harleyyy (or was it a drunken Ray Duke?) booted me from the room for ten minutes, and we all had a laugh, except apparently YOU who still has his underoos in a knot over it 7 years later. Good grief, The Dude told me to do 10 times worse my very first time in the chat! I just can't believe you think that one event in the first few days is some kind of litmus test of my participation/acceptance there. Dude and I had YEARS of happy, friendly, interactions after that, both social and biz, until HE threw that part of his life away. Now you are gonna try to spin it in here like one single moments misunderstanding, at square ONE, by someone other than Steve, is some sort of grand knock against me? You think it's somehow going to discredit my first-hand knowledge of Dude ripping off the community/family that supported him??? Yesmen/lemmings like you are a huge part of what went wrong at the pit, and why Steve was able to fall so very far/hard. Champion enabling right there! Do you also teach revisionist history to the Russians?
In 2 weeks I'll be on my way to hang with a big gang of former pitters at NAMM. Not a single one of them will be upset that you and CBR won't be there. These are people that would have walked in front of a bus for Steve. Strange how they don't feel that way anymore, isn't it? You know better than anyone how it all really went down, and if you think calling me out in here is the way to go about waxing over the Dude's debacle you are sadly, sadly, mistaken.

I hear Marc Serio is looking for a new apologist, you should apply.

No, I'm not calling anybody out, and I don't teach revisionist history, and goody for you that you'll be at NAMM. I'm sure that the highlight in your life.

"except apparently YOU who still has his underoos in a knot over it 7 years later."

I just wanted to remind that the story is not a one sided deal. i just have a good memory. Steve knocked you off the chat. and said "This is MY house!" and nobody is going to talk like that to me in MY house!" (or something to that effect)

"Good grief, The Dude told me to do 10 times worse my very first time in the chat! I just can't believe you think that one event in the first few days is some kind of litmus test of my participation/acceptance there."

I was there and I don't rememeber that. And I don't think I'm forgetting out of convenience, either.

"You think it's somehow going to discredit my first-hand knowledge of Dude ripping off the community/family that supported him???"

Not at all, we know what happened and theres still bitterness over it today.

"Yesmen/lemmings like you are a huge part of what went wrong at the pit, and why Steve was able to fall so very far/hard."

(?)

"In 2 weeks I'll be on my way to hang with a big gang of former pitters at NAMM. Not a single one of them will be upset that you and CBR won't be there."

Awww, I missed the party again! Oh well....

"Strange how they don't feel that way anymore, isn't it? You know better than anyone how it all really went down, and if you think calling me out in here is the way to go about waxing over the Dude's debacle you are sadly, sadly, mistaken."

"No, that wasn't the point at all and please don't put a chip on your shoulder, it's not worth it and I feel you know it.

"I hear Marc Serio is looking for a new apologist, you should apply. "

Why?
