The Epic Long Build: Squier P-Bass Special Cusomization

So this is a project that started about a year ago, when I sprung on a new neck for what was the n my only bass, My Squier that I have had for 7 years now.

So I ordered a fretless maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard.

Bask in its fuzzy glory (old camera, bad glass, things happen)

And so I did the install

BAM! And my modding fever was cured... for a time. Soon enough I put Brass screws in where I felt safe doing so and these were achieved:

And It was good. And then the thought struck me: "Why not gold hardware? And a black pickguard (to maximize contrast, ya know?). So I ordered the parts.

Now the Interesting part started. First the pickguard didn't fit, something I've already talked to you guys about, so I've decided to paint it, a process I'm going to detail tomorrow, when I have all the stuff.

Im also doing some hole filing and drilling, so this is just the start of the post. More pics and explanations to come!!!:bassist:

OK, so I didn't post the next day, life came knockin'. :rollno:

So, I've managed to get all the hardware good and set (pics later), and I'm currently running a test on the pickguard painting. I'm painting a scrap piece of lexan to see how it might look on the guard, so, the guard painting wont be up for at least another 3 days or so... but Progress is Progress, eh comrade?

Time once again for an update from nowhere.
Here is the test piece.

I'll post photos of the process when the guard is done.

See ya then! :bassist:

I have to kinda smile here. I get in the same mood and start to change things up on a perfectly good bass. Right now, I'm in the planning stages of changing out the pots and pups on my old PJ. Good luck, and it looks good so far!

and when your done you should have something like this

The tools of destruction

so first I sanded 'er up real good, until the sheen was off.

then I hit it with a VERY light coat of the bulldog. Its what caused the cracks on the test piece.:rollno:

then the first coat of black. I start off of the piece, an go straight across, until I'm off on the other side, move up and go back. Kinda type-writer like.

After it dried for about 5 hours, I gave it a good sanding. I did this in between the first 4 coats, 5 color coats total.

I did this for the clear coats as well (2). This is the "finished" product.
