The Epiphone Thunderbird Club

I did a little live jam w/a couple of friends last night. I decided to bring the T-bird just on a whim (I usually bring my P bass). Somebody snapped this pic of me gearing on her. You can clearly see the Hipshot Supertone bridge from this angle. This 'bird sure screams ROCK N ROLL don't she? ;)

I really think the epiphone thunderbirds benefit from the pure deep tone of medium flatwounds. I put a set of chromes on my epi-goth and now that bass sounds better than my gibson w/ rounds. So obviously the gibby-bird needs a set next !

I had to re-intonate the epi-bird becuase with the flats I could hear it was out a bit. I thought it was fine with the rounds, but they are so "harmonically muddy" I could'nt really get perfect intonation. It was hard sometimes to learn songs by ear, now the bass locks up with what has been recorded. Try it.. and the chromes are sooo smooth.

I got my epiphone gothic thunderbird a few months ago, plays nicely after a bit of tweaking.
Of course I'm still new to bass so I don't know a great deal, what I do know is that I love the sound it makes.....am I in the club yet? Or do I have to pass a test?:p

The Hipshot looks pretty massive (at least from that angle).. does it add a lot of mass to the body (as in counterweight against the neck)?

The weight difference is barely noticeable, but the increased sustain is obvious. I relocated the strap button from the horn to the neck pocket and that completely cured the neck dive (this technique is discussed several other times in this thread). I tried putting the strap back on the original button and it still has massive neck dive. So, the increased mass of the bridge does not add any significant balance.

Its been awhile since I have updated the numbers, but it looks like I didn't miss many new members.

Hope things are still going strong with all your t-birds. Mine has been neglected recently. It may come out for church this week.
