The Pro has been available to the public for less than a year (although it debuted @ NAMM in '09, nobody had them for sale until June or July 09) while the bolt on Epi bird has been available 10 - 15 years...and is cheaper.

As far as the black color, there is some discussion. Whether it is as popular, less, or more than the natural & sunburst is hard to say.

Yours is the first Epi Pro V I've seen on here, and considering I am considering getting one, I have to ask, how is it?

I saw the Pro V in Trans Black, and thought that it looked absoutely gorgeous, and have been considering moving to a 5 string for a while now. And as it isn't that expensive, I though 'Why not?'.

I'm trying one out (hopefully) later this week, but would appreciate a kind of 'Review' of it if possible :)

Picked up a beat-up goth epi-bird for $108 and with a can of white appliance paint, some wood filler for the huge dent, some black enamel for the pickguard, and a set of Seymour-D SSB-4's (another $100) I have a very nice bird. The SSB-4's are actually a bit smaller across the width, but still looks good because I painted the cavity and the space is not obvious. They make the epi come alive, very articulate, and musical. The also need springs to get them up to the strings, the epi foam pads are not tall enough. Wanted to thank that (British) guy who made the YT Vid about souping up a epi-goth bird!

Recorded a few lines of the SSB4-equipped epi-bird direct to my annoying Dell laptop mic input that adds clicking, thankyou. Played blind, cuz the headphone out doesn't work when recording.
first lick is both pups and tone on 5
second lick is neck pup only, tone on 5
Note: I got some pop-ups...anyone know a good mp3 hosting site?

I just did my first mods to my Gothic Thunderbird. :)

The stock pickups weren't working for me, so I took them out. Replaced the bridge pickup with an EMG-35DC, and covered the neck pickup hole + one pot hole with some black duct tape. The end result looks a bit DIY/punk, but will do for now just fine.

The only problem I encountered was that the EMG's input plug and wiring stick out from the back of the body somewhat unless you bend them in a not-so-wise angles. Not more than the centered section is raised from the body wings (so it fits into the Epi case just fine), but might be something to watch out when moving around while playing live. Some light styrofoam might help to soften the (possible) blows, but I'm still somewhat lost what to do with this problem... any suggestions?

I'll post some pictures later, it's one A.M up here and I'll have to get up at 6.30 so I'm too tired to play with a camera at this hour...

I guess my first thought is why not just leave the neck pup and its pot installed until you get a second EMG? I don't understand the second issue; are you talking about a plastic connector housing getting the the way? If so, I would just cut it off and solder the wires together and use that electrical tape to insulate the bare solder joints. The pickup itself should be sitting on a foam pad or springs so the wire that goes to it should have room for a reasonable bend radius.
Hey- but on a goth T-bass, electrical tape seems OK !!!!

The problem isn't with the wire that comes/goes under the pickup, mainly with the output wiring & the the connector (solderless) types that EMG uses with their current active setup. I'll post pictures later today, it should clarify this a bit :)

The reason I took out both pickups is that I'm not replacing the neck PU. I don't use it and wanted a simplified setup, in looks and in use. Most likely I'll fill the hole eventually with a block of wood (when I have the time)

just picked this up yesterday. it's my second one. i had one in vintage sunburst and i hated it. i sold it after owning it for 2 months. a couple of months later. i REAAALLY wanted one again. after debating on whether i wanted one or not for a year, i finally decided to pick it up. got it at guitar center for a steal, which has also changed my views on GC forever now. :bassist:

Installed seymour duncan ssb-4 pups in my old MIK burst, swapped pickguards with the silverburst, and thought I'd take a family pic with the white goth... The burst has tapewounds...

i wont mess with my gibsons..the epi's are so much fun
