THE EVOLVING BASSIST?

I have seen a few recommendations from forum members for this book and/or dvd. Rufus Reid is classic! Any worthful info from him would be priceless. But, given that this instructional media seems to be gears more towards the upright, would it be beneficial to use with electric bass?

Thanks

It is a great, systematic bass guitar method book. I do have one question for those who have used it. The first exercise is an expansive open string study. Perhaps I'm missing something, but Mr. Reid does not mention string silencing anywhere in the text before or after the study. He does however mention that his book can be used in lieu a teacher. How is a new student going to know that they should silence the strings?, And if they do realize that they need to silence the open strings, how are they going to know the proper techniques to do so?

I play the Open String study both legato and staccato and I silence with my plucking hand. My fretting hand doesn't touch the strings. How is a new student going to know how to do that?
