The Explorer Bass Club

I wouldn't rather have my Destroyer any other color than "Fire Red", the Ibanez candy apple red. That's the only color I can imagine it being. The only thing I'd like more would be to have a Destroyer with a flame maple top, cherryburst, with creme binding like Dave Murray's Destroyer. Now that thing is a looker! It was watching the Early Days DVD that made me want a Destroyer. I wish I could get a long scale one some day. I wonder if Ibanez makes custom basses nowadays?

But Explorers are metal as ****, no two ways about it. What a rad shape. Of course, I wouldn't own as many as I do if they weren't as comfortable as they are.

Good choice allowing MLs in. Just wish Dean basses (and most of their guitars) weren't such a joke. :rollno: I played a Razorback bass...ONCE... :(

I just started to design my new explorer. Not easy to make it different but still an explorer! The destroyers are a nice version!!!
I want to make it big 'cause I am a tall guy who likes sweets :-)))
Many explorers like the beautiful Arias are a litte to small in my opinion.

Have you played one? they are medium scale not short so there isn't as much of a diff. Also the neck pocket is about the same as a long scale so you could just put on a new neck and move the bridge a bit if it "must" be 34.

Yes, many times. I have owned one for about 3 years. It's got crappy strings which I can't afford to change at the moment, but it's one of my favorite basses. I can feel a distinct difference between a 34" and 32" neck. Since I don't own any other instruments with that scale length, I want to keep it as it is. I really dig everything about it, I just wish it had a bridge pickup and modified electronics, but all in due time. But I'd like to have a 34" Ibby Destroyer--that'd be a blast!

Man, i love the look of them Destroyers.

Mhmm. They are sweet! I dig it more every time I see it.

Sweet! Keep us posted on how it goes!

Yeah, for an Explorer to be comfy, it's gotta have enough meat on it--that's just how it works with this body shape.

Oh, my Explorer will be under the knife soon, gonna be a machine!

I have, on order,
Hipshot Ultralights,
Hipshot A Bridge in brass,
Three String Retainer,
push/pull pots,
On/On switches,
chrome mounting rings,
Rio Grande Pitbull pickup,

This is how it will be wired,

And I may reshape the headstock, to a tele bass shape, and paint it matching black.
