The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

Danbowskill...what settings are you running the modern channel on the SB thru the 610hlf? I want to give this another try as many have said they have had great results running thru ampeg cabs with the SB.
I have the Gain and blend at 0, bass 4-5, mid freq 7 and mids 7 ,treble 7 and pulled out (boosted) vol level 6 and master to suit , no tweeter on the 6x10. For reference i play a P bass in drop C (alt ,punky ,rock) and use pedals as overdrive. for me all this sit's fab in our band mix, nice and clear with punch.
It sounded very much just like my USA ampeg CL head did.
At low level into my epifani 2x12 the vintage channel shines .......but through the ampeg at loud levels ......meh!
Obviously whats great for me mighten be for others etc etc

it will likely be a good long while before I do any swapping, I'm more than satisfied with the stock tones!
Thanks! I'm going to start with these settings. The ampeg 610hlf has been my work horse for many years with an SVT early on and then as of late the reissue v4b when that came out. I'm really happy with the fender Bassman 410 cabs but I really want to put SB on the 610 for additional setups if nothing else for fun!

somewhere in this thread I posted a pic of settings I used with the SB and Neo 610 with my Ric. It's pure tonal bliss!
I 'usually' set the modern channel up as a slightly overdriven sound -or VERY overdriven sound- and mostly use the Vintage channel
With my Ric 4003 I'll usually use the Vintage channel (as usual ) but pull the deep switch on the BASS control (I'll use this setting with my 77 Gibson G3 too)
And pretty much always my VINTAGE channel settings are - bass- 4, mid - 10, treble - 3 to 5... that's it. Gawjus lush tubey tone. Pull that DEEP switch and it gives a pillowy bottom to the slightly bottom shy 4003 & G3.

So I've been watching, and listening, to some demos on this and it's little brother the 100t. They both sound incredible and amazingly versatile. I am getting very interested in both of these and I'm trying to figure out if 100 watts is enough or just go for the Super Bassman.

I was looking at the 100T and the Ampeg V4B while looking for tube amps. I gig at all different sized venues and understand that my amp is going to be my stage monitor only.
I wanted the headroom so I looked at the 300 watters. I like Ampeg, Mesa, Ashdown, and Fender tube amps. All very different, but the Fender made more sense for power, features, and cost.
For me like you I am sure, I wanted to buy once cry once, so I searched and searched and found a NIB Super Bassman for $1200. Then I knew it was meant to be.
I had it with me for every gig for the past year and am completely happy with everything about it.
It also sounds amazingly great through a GB Uber 410
I know that no one around me is gigging either amp. I would love to play thru them both. We have a new Fender dealer in town but the last time I stopped by they didn't have either in stock.
I bought mine without playing through it. But I knew I would be able to coax a sound out of it that I liked by having 2 different channels.
If I really wanted to, I have the luxury of living in Chicago, I could have found one to play through. I took a chance and don't regret it.
Any chance there are any you could rent in your area?
No I doubt it. I am close enough to Bass Central to make a day trip out if it though so I guess I'll have to make that happen.

I really like both of these though and I guess it really comes down to how much power do I really need. I like clean headroom and that will most likely steer me to the Super Bassman though. I'm new to tube bass amps. I've always played solid state and the last 4 years I've gigged a Genz Streamliner 900. About a month ago I picked up a MusicMan HD 150. I gigged it that weekend and even though it has a solid state front end I fell in love with what I was getting from the power tubes. It has peaked my interest enough that I want to go to a full tube head and I am really liking the Fenders.

I got mine second hand, so no real choice between the 100t and SB300.
When I saw mine for sale, I went to try it out, not to buy, but to be able to discount all the carry on about how good the amps were. I played it for 2 minutes and knew I had to have it.

I primarily like CLEAN tube tone. .. and the SB has this in spades. WITH the ability to blend in almost any amount of drive you require.
I use a 100w V4B also, but the sheer ooomph factor of the 6 6550 power tubes is undeniable. ..and delicious.
So unless I've got stairs/very poor access to the stage area, the Super Bassman gets it every time.
As I've stated more than a thousand times. ..no doubt. ...
It's the ONLY amp that I've found that I can play anywhere on the fret board and STILL have the solidity & punch. .. other amps. ..the V4B included (altho it2s a beauty too) just cannot match this.

100 watts can be more than enough in combination with the right cabinet, I use mine most of the time with the Neo 610.
Great for playing rock music, power tube breakup is so nice!
For r&b and pop music it's the Super Bassman, different voice, but obvious from the same family.
Both fantastic amps, can't go wrong with either of them, especially with the neo cabs.
