The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

Well, I've taken the plunge. I picked up the head from a fellow TBer, and then found a great deal on a completely refurbished late 60's 2x15. I still plan on picking up one of the new Bassman Pro cabs to go along with it, but I just couldn't resist the 2x15, especially after hooking it up for a test drive. Wow, what an amazing amp.

Now, down to this tube business... Its due for fresh power tubes and I am torn on which way to go???? I'm reading winged Cs all over the place, but damn they are expensive!

cool rig. watch out for the power rating on that 2x15. Unless the speakers have been its been replaced/upgraded, I'm sure they can't handle the wattage of the SB300.
Of course, there always is the volume knob ;)

ha, kinda looks like this rig, except this one is a Fender Studio Bass (200w all tube amp from 1978) on top of a LDS 2x15 loaded with Faital 15PR400's (which I have since rebadged with a Fender logo I had laying around). The Studio Bass sounds great, but I'm guessing your new SB300 is more versatile with the 2 different channels (aside from the extra 100w it kicks out).
I love old school looking rigs. totally cool :cool:

I loved the Studio Bass but the Super Bassman is another world imo. Maybe it's the 6550's it just the design but it's just got SO much punch behind each note. It's so lush and syrupy and tubey and thick. As soon as I got the hang of the Super Bassman I knew the Studio Bass wouldn't get much use.
The Super Bassman just suits me perfectly.
I think you'd gain not just 100w but a heap of power- it FEELS way more than an extra 100w to me.

I put the new Svetlanas in tonight. They appear to my eye, and ear to be nearly identical to the GTs. We'll see how they hold up.

they did but they discontinued the Oxblood cabs due to 1) dealer feedback and 2) lack of sales. The dealers were moving the black models and didn't want to stock the oxbloods as they weren't able to sell them.
I got this info at NAMM from the product manager at NAMM. They are willing to reintroduce them if there is enough demand.

I'm thinking if we can get enough folks together to preorder the NEO115's from a dealer, we might be able to have Fender build a run of them No clue how many we'd need to preorder tho.

Svt settings, blend in gain for taste. The high mids boosted gets the SVT thing down EXACTLY. I would invoke a blindfold test and pay whoever could tell the difference.

I'll be running channel 1 clean and channel 2 as the "svt" with a b7k in front of it. The only downer is that its the slowest time of year for gigs.

I tried out your SVT settings at rehearsal yesterday (through my Ampeg SVT212AV cabinets). You are absolutely right about the high mids boost - that brings it really freaking close. I brought the highs down just a touch, boosted the bass a tad and had the blend set at about 7. Can't say I have it perfectly dialed in, but given it was my first go-round with these cabinets, I was very happy. The mid control on that channel is money.

Awesome, I'm glad somebody is getting use out of it, although I'm sure anyone could have toyed around until they found that mid frequency...you know, that one. If my strings are loosing it I'll pull the treble knob out to get more glass, it's a beautiful thing this amp.

Yeah - it's good stuff. I've not done much with the overdrive channel just because the vintage channel was so nice sounding and easy to dial in. Now its going to be hard playing without it...

Oh yeah, and I know there was a fair bit of discussion a while back about the volume this thing cranks out. It's pretty brutal slamming into those four 12s - and I haven't even really pushed it all that hard. Love this amp.

Used my Super Bassman and a single Bassman 115 neo cab last night.
I tried the above posted SVT settings on the active channel.
Sounded great. (Thanx for posting them)
As I've got a broken thumb at present (long story) I didn't do much fiddling of controls. I did lower the mid Freq a tiny bit about halfway thru the night but it was a very minor adjustment. Cool tone. Thanx again.
