The Flea Bowl

Everytime I see Flea play nowadays he is using Ampeg.

here too.

I'm surprised that the real flea modulus bass isn't more popular. I love mine.

I would like to see flea w/Tom morello and Chris Cornell do and album........

The SSB should always be sung solo, it's an insult to everything AMERICAN to PUNCH IT UP. I don't care if Paul McCartney was playing bass for it. I watched the video and tried to tune out the rest of the crap. JG is still a top singer. I was tuned in for the game, not the SSB anyway.

Quite the game though huh?

I'll diss Flea on that performance. What the hell? Attempting to play chords on a bass in a stadium setting? I just don't get the whole arrangement.

That's because you're looking at it like a star spangled banner performance television viewer. If you look at it like a bass guitar advertisement viewer, it makes perfect sense.

It obviously was an attempt to get Flea's bass shoehorned into the public eye.

Personally, I would have much rather seen Flea dust off one of his trumpets and mix it up with the brass section standing behind him. I mean he may have switched primarily to bass, but the gift he was given for the trumpet shouldn't be wasted at the perfect moment.

Although who knows maybe he was going to do that but Josh Grobins people didn't want him to overshadow Josh or something...

I am the OP :spit:

1. The Flea Bass (the 34" scale, I guess) was puke green, not orange. I must be going color blind.

2. Its not Flea's fault that the SSB is a horrible song (which should be replaced by some decent music and lyrics). :scowl:

3. I never heard of Josh Groban or Bocelli (any relation to Botticelli?) :p

4. Flea's bass solo on the SSB at that basketball game was, IMO, awesome. That's the Flea I know and love. :bassist:

5. What does Paul McCartney have to do with the SSB?

6. The horn section looked like the back up band for The Blues Brothers. :D

7. This Forum has an entire thread on the Flea Bass - use the search function.

63 years old huh?

Oh gawd......that was like having a gorilla attempt to shove haggis down my ear canal. That was quite possibly the foulest arrangement of our national anthem ever. SShould of just had the dude sing, and nixed all the rest. I may not be a Flea fan, though I do respect his playing, but I just cannot grasp how that performance was ever allowed to occur.

Also, as an aside, I still find it hilarious that our national anthem is set to the tune of an old english drinking song....
