Ive previously had a lined fretless (bought a neck from WarriorJoe), but this is a different beast, and well i prefere it. Unlined looks sexier (IMO).

I stumbled across this new-condition used G&L bass and it's exactly what I would have picked for a custom order: semihollow fretless, 1-1/2" nut and 12" radius, ebony board w/ghostlines (no longer offered), clear orange finish, matching headstock (love the look), and natural wood binding.
I love the sound of this bass. I started with TI Flats on it, which are great, but I recently switched to Black Diamond black coated, which are coated pure nickel roundwounds. They're higher tension and provide easier speed and articulation. They also seem easier to intonate properly without audible drift. Bought it sight unseen and this one hit it out of the park for me.

That is beautiful JohnnyB53. So far, what settings on the switches do you use most often - passive or active, parallel or series, both pups or just one? So many settings on a G&L.

:O I'm not even in this thread yet! I already have a number, but still it's time for some gorgeous Jazz Bass pics.
This is my Fender Standard Jazz Bass fretless. It's equipped with Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups and a Gotoh 201 bridge that isn't in some pics yet. I also changed the pickguard and had the fingerboard epoxied.

Thanks! My original intent was to get something to cop an upright vibe, at least that it would blend that way in ensemble. Turns out this bass can do that very well.
For the uprighty sound I use the neck pickup set to parallel with the boost switch on (but not with treble boost), and both tone controls full up. This is the setting I use most often by far, as that was the sound I was looking for. I switch to various settings described below when the music calls for a more electric sound, or more cut, snarl, or growl.
For a P-bass sound I use the neck pickup in series, and passive mode. I may back off the bass tone control a bit depending on the amp and room acoustics.
For a J-bass sound, use both pickups in parallel and boost, but not treble boost. You can get lots of tanky snarl and growl here, and get tankier and snarlier by adding treble boost.
For Jaco-type sounds, same as above plus treble boost and either both or the bridge pickup.
For a big, powerful all-encompassing sound, pull out all the stops--both pickups selected in series and boost+treble activated.
For a sound that sits well in a big noisy mix w/o getting lost, use the bridge pickup in series with boost or boost + treble.

Man, I did a double take when I saw that! It looks just like my Standard fretless! Mine still has the stock pickups, but does have a Gotoh 201. I'm gonna hold off on the fingerboard epoxy, until I can upgrade the neck (actually, upgrade my fretless playing and intonation) to an unlined. I'm thinking ebony would sound great and look excellent with the Midnight Wine/Black...
Mine is very similar to BassAgent's bass, assuming the color is Midnight Wine, but with a few differences. My pickguard is white, I have a Seymour Duncan Vintage pickup in the neck position, a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickup in the bridge position, a thumbrest above the E-string, and a Leo Quan bridge. I recently got it defretted and had the pickups installed.
I'll post some pics when I can get some (no digital camera), but I figured I'd at least introduce myself.

Ok, here are my two basses. This Squire VMF was my first fretless. I didn't want to spend alot just in case I didn't take to fretless basses. As it turns out I haven't looked back. I modded the Squire with a BadAssII bridge and replaced the pickups with a pair of DiMarzio Area-J pickups. Just love it.

The second is a recent purchase (on layby) , a Maton MGB-4 fretless. It's the successor to their JB4 basses. Very popular in the 80s in Australia. Not sure how popular or well known their basses were outside of Australia though. Anyway, I like it and that's what matters!

Ah!!! Help me! I played a extreamly cheap fretless pj today, and I think I like it better than my sterling! It had emg rip offs but had a very sweet mellow tone. It reminded me of Butler's wah pedal solo intro for NIB. It's sad, I can understand me liking the tony franklin sig better but this bass was selling for $150!!!
If you found a bass you like, and it's only $150, then you don't need our help-- just buy it and enjoy!
It is a custom Mike Dolan neck, ebony on maple with nitro finish. Tis awesome. Traded the original neck and a few odd ends for it, and I love it.
I honestly can say I cant put it down. A fretless can almost pull off a fretted.. the vice versa? Not soo much..
Just got my Clement, and posted pictures of it in the Clement club thread. But since it is also a fretless:
