Thank you for the response. So now I'm looking for fretless basses, and my wife is laughing at me all over again. Going to start looking at Carvin again, as I think I have what I'm looking for down to the specifics. Either that or I need to start talking to Sadowsky or Roscoe. lawl.

The Fretless Club (Part 2!)

My next fretless is going to be a Carvin LB-75F. Walnut body, walnut& maple neck. peizo pickups in addition to the active soapbars. I want barts... but they don't put barts on them from the factory.
but either way.. should be very nice.
If I can get my hands on a natural finish fretless streamer for a reasonable, affordable price first, that will be instead.

I just can't get comfortable with a 5er. Wish I could, I love the range. I just can't span the neck. My hands are very large, and my thumbs are too short for them. So I have a lot of difficulty keeping position and transitioning. I would give almost anything for skinny, gangly fingers. The upside is no one tries picking fights as my fist is about the sive of a sledge hammer.
Hmm, a 5er only has 5 more notes, why not extend along the fingerboard, rather than across it?!
Like the Zon Hyperbass, or Wishbasses?
Just look up Michael Manring, its his sig bass.
Note that you cannot get the detunable bridge any more.
^^^ HyperBass, very expensive, but amazing, one of these tuned BEAD, you'd probably have more range than a 6 string, with the three octaves.
Its actually, where Wish got the idea for the extended necks.
Hey guys just thought I'd add my lovely fretless to this thread, it IS based on a Tobias classic 5 string, but it really is its own bass, i.e. has a very unique sound, it's all African mahogany on the body and neck, and VERY lightweight, with an ebony board and thuya facings on the pup covers and headstock:

current fretless is acoustic due to noise complaints:

the best bass i ever owned was a cheap hohner fretless that looked and sounded like a million bucks, everything about it was right for me the weight shape etc it was the only instrument i ever felt such a deep attachment to, but when the electronics died ca.2000 none of the scumbag shops round here would fix it they just kept saying "its a cheap instrument, not worth fixing" F***ers!
and i was young and stupid so i gave up
the neck/body was wonderful. now i try to spend more on instruments in the hope of getting a long lasting axe but you always miss your first love!
Dad doesn't help matters by getting all nostagic over my old bass tone
after that i got a yamaha fretless in puke green that was nothing but trouble from day one, mostly the electrics, i got so fed up i gave it to my cousins Daughter so she'd have a back up bass for her band
that finally taught me to avoid local music shops and i've bought online since 08
anyone tried that hybrid fretted/fretless?
