I never tried a GWB-35, so i can't answer, i only know that the GBW-35 is made with different and cheaper woods (basswood?) and perhaps different electronics... i bought my GWB-1 used in 1999 or 2000 directly from a guy and paid the equivalent of 1000 euros. I know that today the more recent signature model GWB-105 is very pricey, around 2800 euros or similar. For that money for a new bass i would go for a custom or i would buy a cheaper bass with similar specifications, but here in Italy you can find used GWB-1s and GWB-105s for around 1000 euros:

The very good thing about the Gary Willis bass is that the humbucker pu sounds burpy like a single-coil without any hum, and it has one of the best low B despite the fact it is a 34" scale bass. And the ramp is a great thing too... when you get used to it, you can't live without it :P

#1 Faux Fender defret. Fipped out frets, and dots, coated with epoxy

#2 Cort Curbow with ebonal board and Fender 9120 nylon tapewound strings

#3 Carvin LB75F the fretboard is ebony but has an extremely shiny and super hard mirror coat epoxy finish.

I made these 3 basses, the one on the left has Nordstrand NJ4SE's and a Ghost Piezo/Hipshot bridge and epoxy over rosewood/fretless. The middle bass is a chambered headless fretted, the right is a semiacoustic red cedar fretless bass w/dyamondwood fingerboard and Ghost piezo bridge.

Those basses look fantastic! It's not too often I'm impressed with new bass designs, but I find the fretless basses have some of the most interesting looks. Your's look very impressive - I really like that semi-acoustic! Great job!

I am a professional woodworker and took up bass playing 2 years ago. I tried playing a fender Jazz but didn't like the way it felt - it was too neck heavy, so I decided to make my own. I made the semi acoustic bass (on the right) as a travel bass - it is incredibly light weight even the neck is made from cedar, and originally it didn't have electronics. I use super light gauge bright flats on it - the regular gauge strings stress the neck too much. It has the most incredible mwah out of all the basses I have made or played. So I decided to put in a Ghost/piezo system using a cheap bridge w/a push/pull, dark/bright volume knob. This bass sounds best played w/a very light touch - every note along the neck has great mwah and sustain. The design inspiration came from a Benavente hollow body. He makes beautiful basses.
