This song might as well be titled “goin off” because that is what Mike is doing. Bass is front and center in the mix and that descending line in the beginning of the choruses gets me every time (particularly the 3rd chorus, after the bridge, he extends the line and it’s just perfect, it’s at 2:00 in the clip). What a player. Truly an unsung hero.

So sad. Only few comments on Michel's genius and then there is this war between the believers and non-believers about that long-haired white dude playing jazz-rock in the mid 70s which fills numerous pages here from time to time.
At the same time our Michael played utterly melodic bass lines with gorgeous sound and sang sweet vocals over great arrangements. And sold zillions of records.
So hail Michael Henderson!

This thread made me listen to the Goin' Places album ( in an LP form) not only once but twice.
What a gorgeous record, tunes,playing, singing,arrangements, production, recording. Uuhh makes me shiver.

In the old days I was a bit into hifi or in my case midfi and I used Let Me Love You as one of the test tracks to evaluated the ability of the loudspeakers to reproduce Michaels sweet vocals soaring above three dimensional sound stage with marvelous instrument separation.
Younger folks might think: "Whatta this dude means?". And no wonder, modern popular music doesn't crave much finesse in listening. Plenty of Oomph is enough for the enjoyment of an "artist" and a drum machine.

I also used Let Me Love You to evaluate some mainly rock people when they thought they were checking the tune. Quite sure that I did not cause any permanent damage, though I haven't seen that lot in ages.
