I had some crackle going in the 76 SVT. Not bad, not loud, just annoying. Thanks for all the posts on the 6c4. It was the original Magnavox tube, GE. Tested good just developed some noise. Replaced it with a GE 6100 from '59. Has an extra mica spacer. Gone. I have kept this thing fresh so it was just a bug up my azz.
Guy on flea bay has some mullards, CV4058, M8080 6C4wa.They look great. Price didn't seam to awful bad. I guess this is a tube to have extra.
Still might buy those mullards.

AES has 6100/6C4WA for $4.95. I bought a bunch years ago to keep as spares for the same reason.

I think I did get it from them 25 years ago. I have a few tung-sol and an RCA. I liked the triple mica on this one.
From what I've read it is a good idea to stash a few. Honestly was worried it was a leaky coup[ling cap. So relieved.

Was inspired by your post and picked up 2 Sylvania NOS from the local ancient electronics supply. Back ups for the SVT.

Whenever possible, get the 6100/6C3WA. It’s a quieter version that the military used in place of the 6C3 in their radios. Even still, there are noisy 6C3WA’s. Some ebay sellers have the ones that other’s rejected so be careful there. It pays to go with a good tube reseller that tests their products.
