The Green Machine - BAD Dually

I've already posted this for my buds in the stoner/doom thread, but here are my first impressions of the cabinet.

This thing kicks some serious ass. I got ballsy enough to dime the master volume (supposedly 1000W, it FEELS like it) on my amp with the gain at 3:00 running the Bluebeard and El Oso... ridiculous. I now have more volume than I will ever need in my entire life.

Took me a bit to find the sweet spot with my amp's EQ, considering I'm transitioning from a sealed 610 to a ported 215. One thing I noticed immediately was the cab seems to be much more responsive to small changes in my signal chain. Started fiddling with knobs on the Bluebeard and got tones I've never heard before. This will be an interesting tone journey cause I feel like I have a lot more tonal options at my disposal. I did not spend a whole lot of time tweaking my amp, as my Ric pickup arrives tomorrow after getting a rewind job from Carey Nordstrand. That will be my main bass, so the real tweaking begins tomorrow.

Being 6'5", I was slightly concerned that a "short" cabinet like this may be difficult to hear. I won't get to hear it in a band mix until Sunday, but walking around my jam space at different angles, the projection of the cab sounded very good and even. I don't foresee being able to hear myself being a problem.

The color is awesome! I didn't actually send Don any paint squares, just gave him a ball park idea and he hit a home run. I told him I would like a color very similar to the color Green Electric Amp uses and it just looks stunning! The Carvin rack is also really cool looking with the matching duratex. The duratex job is as professional as I've ever seen. I had Don use the heavy duty hardware and casters, so the cab is super easy to move around. I didn't weigh it but I'd guess it is around 60 lbs. I'm a big guy, so if need be I can actually carry it by the side handle by myself. Super easy to toss into the back of my hatch back.

Overall, I don't have a single negative thing to say. Don was very professional, and also very personal. We had lots of communication before hand, and also during the build. He went above and beyond to answer any questions I had. This is the fourth custom piece of gear I've ordered from a small-time builder. The other three experiences were pretty terrible. Don runs a business that is the model of exemplary customer service. For anyone interested in any of the Greenboy/fEARful cabs, I cannot recommend him enough! And I am now a true Greenboy believer.

This is easily one of the coolest looking cabs I've ever seen and Im really looking forward to a more in depth review. Im interested to hear how the top end and mids differ from the nv610. The lows surely are different. I just had the same experience when using my B-peg overdrive into a buddies trace elliot 1524 cab. So, damn, cool.

Again, verrrry nice! The green seems to have more of a blue cast in Your pics, could be the lighting or what-not. Still, I absolutely love that color! The 7 Pro and that cab should be a really good combination.

At the moment, I am actually planning on re-wrapping the Trace V4 that I recently aquired, and building a tolex wrapped matching fEARful 15/6 tube (in the process of gathering up the goodies for the build at the moment). With that said, I like the color of Your rig so much, I am seriously contemplating cop'n a similar color scheme to what You have going there (Only with Your blessing of course? LOL).

Haha of course you can! It's not like I hold some trademark on green tolex. And yeah, despite the grainy cell phone pic my image represents the actual color a little closer. It's a little deeper than how it appears in the photos Don took, best described as an Irish green, which makes sense as the color he used is leprechaun.

In the end everything worked out, which I knew it would. It was just a frustrating journey haha. Although I'm not disappointed I didn't end up with a composite cab (even though I'm sure Mike Arnopol makes fantastic ones) as at 60 lbs this cab is very manageable to move around.

My 1515/66/1 is probably one of the heavier greenboy cabs out there at a whopping 105 pounds. It is still lighter than my old peavey 410. Tilt back casters make moving it a breeze. If anyone has the ability to transport one of these cabs, they should have absolutely no fear about moving them.

Well I tried to give some comparisons in the post I made after I got the cab. Obviously the NV610 has a lot more punch, where the Dually attack is quite smooth and full.

The Dually also has a lot more low end. I had been running the bass knob on my 7 Pro close to dimed with the NV610 to get as much low end as I wanted. Anything past 2:00 with the Dually is way too much.

Knob turning on the amp and my pedals seem to be much more responsive with the Dually than the NV610. I feel like minor adjustments make a much bigger difference in the overall tone with the Dually.

And none of that is a knock on the Berg. It is a great cab and definitely sounds great with my rig. But the Dually is more much of what I was looking for and I definitely prefer it.
