The Green Machine - BAD Dually

Laz, just wanted to personally thank you for contributing to the delinquency of a bass player. Well, you and JohnK (Faital Disc), and Husky 123.

I just got off the phone with Mark at BNA and pulled trigger on a Dually. I went with the Faitals.

Would have happily done business with BAD but I was looking for an excuse to drive to Nashville and now I have it!

I am dirt poor again but giddy, none the less. That's right, I busted big with GIDDY !

He speaks very fondly of you as well! So nice to see businesses putting customers first. Both you guys rock !

I am pretty excited. Been hemming and hawing for months reading all of the posts.

Then it dawned on me. With the hundreds of positive posts did I really think that a Dually could possibly be worse than most mass produced cabinets in this price range? That's when I put my hand on my checkbook.........

For all the flying dung that Greenboy took around here with everyone turd-tossing because there could be no way the cabs were that good, or that completely well designed, its good to hear that.

Lots of people never have been able to understand why so many guys who tried them became so enthusiastic about them, and write it off as that infamous 'kool aid'. We've also heard about how those Authorized Builders are just spamming their wares and build 'janky' sorry looking cabs. All of these things are counter to my experience and also the obviously high aesthetic standard we've been seeing on a regular basis.

I get the feeling the AB's (Authorized Builders) are just getting started. Every week there seems to be yet another stunning cab, Laz's being no exception. There's a bit of a friendly competition between those guys, and they keep pushing the limits of what's possible.

I do have a somwhat 'janky' cab, but that dude is no longer an AB. I also bought it used- so I have no complaints. But I have yet to hear anything that can out-gun it except another Greenboy design. Or a Mesa 610 (a personal favorite of mine).

I think once the Country guys get into these cabs, things will go even further. I could be wrong, but it seems mostly rock/funk/pop players are getting these. I would love to hear a Dually in a Honky-tonk...

For me, Don and jHawk Customs keep that bar nice and high so the customer has a great, beautiful, lifetime cab. Mike Arnpol's composite work is pretty darn stunning too. Dave Homer is currently chasing down some great concepts in the build process. I feel zero tension with any of my fellow authorized builders...we help each other, compare notes, look for improvements, etc. It's a really great community, for sure. Hopefully, the friendliness between builders, and our individual desire to keep raising the bar makes for the best cabs available...I got no desire to sell junk just to make a couple bucks. This is a labor of love business all the way :)

I hope you're not sorry for giving me some latitude, design-wise, John! My tastes can run a bit on the whacky side, if you saw my 'Doc Martin' oxblood Fearless 215 we did for Chris Rhoades. My personal Fearless 215 is nearly done...building the crossover tonight. It's very typical of my 'Mid Century Modern' leanings.

Gonna think on your cab for a day or two...don't worry, I'll ask before doing anything too nutty :)

The Duallys and Bassics, and all the fEARless, also seem to have won over a few of the skeptics. This is no longer a one-trick pony with a single design concept.

One more note on Don Barry's cabs. Not to sound new agey or whatever, but his builds give me a sense of well being in the obvious and not so obvious ways. You can really see the craftsmanship and quality...super square, perfect mortises, the best parts. He was my biggest inspiration when I became a builder.

Mark, of the times that I have worked with craftsmen/builders, I find that it is better to allow the builder artistic leeway. If you do business with someone and ask for the cookie cutter model, the builder gets to go to sleep because he is doing well.......cookie cutter. Now, work with the same guy, go over the important stuff, and let the builder try something a little different, the builder finds the build more interesting and gets to offer his/her perception of personal touches. Hence your badass Oxblood cab that left many of us breathless.

With that sir, my only hard limit is no flaming pink please. And I am pretty safe as flaming pink wasn't in the budget. (Really kind of bummed that my disposible income didnt allow me to throw another 300.00 on the fire so you could really run amuck.)

It's all you, brother. Take your time, hopefully you'll find it interesting, and build it with love !

I don't know that people ever figured out that the fEARfuls were never a one trick pony, and that while they sound remarkably similar, they're individually designed boxes to attain that result.
