Would you play a Pink Bass ? Why are they so popular ? Why do major manufactures even make them and why are they considered cool?

If you can help me please understand these question I would appreciate it.

I loathe "colored" instruments. I was a "black-guitar-white-pickguard" kind of guy.

In the 80s, companies went nuts, trying to out day-glo each other.

Some companies - while their hot green neon instruments sold - realized there was still a pocket of us preferred the nostalgic look decided to start charging a premium for it (in a way).

"Do you want a black Strat© with a white pickguard? WE will sell you one, but now, it bears Eric or Robert's names and you're going to pay extra for it."

Through the years, I have found if I want certain "options" on an instrument, I have to buy the color the manufacturer in which the company chooses to offer those accoutrements.

That said, in my "private" life, I have always been a fan of some of the deeper shades of purple ("Royal Purple", primarily).

A few years back, I bought a well-made instrument from a reputable company. Sweetwater was out of stock on them. As a result, they used the company's "stock photo" of the instrument which appeared in a reasonable (to me) purple fade color.

I put the guitar on order and waited (almost a year). The guitar came in, I got the call from Sweetwater: "Do you still want the instrument?"

"Of course I do!"

They billed me and sent the guitar (and a case for it; for which I paid extra). The FedEx driver left it, leaning against my house (in the rain), even though I was home and waiting for it.

I was so livid with the situation (The water had gotten all the way through to the instrument) that my brain did not fully process that I was holding a pink instrument, when I was on the phone with Sweetwater, complaining about the delivery (I did get to "meet" Francesca ["Frankie']; who is a sweetheart).

I wouldn't play this guitar publicly if they financed a nation-wide tour for me. It's not entirely that it's pink. That is a contributing factor. My issue is it is plain ugly.

To show some contrast: I have considered (and am on the fence about) buying/playing an Ibanez JEM Jr. in pink. It's atrocious, but somehow, still somewhat appealing. I favor Ibanez instruments, these days.

I suggest y’all look up the history of the color pink. But let’s just say it’s a beautiful color and if done right looks great on just about everything.

Pink certainly has a bit of a range.

I can understand that a bass like that Dean is a bit too much on the eye,

But the color that fender calls "Shell pink" is a classic IMHO.

I was thinking within the last hour about wearing a pink shirt with my band's logo. I couldn't afford to buy a new bass of any colour for a good while, but you've got me thinking. It would need to be a Soundgear Premium or top Standard. Maybe a pink seethru on an ash body. I have a luthier friend. Would I get crowd funding for the 2500 he costs?

I don't have a pink bass. I like natural wood basses but, I have some color in my collection as well. For me, the color pink represents the fight against cancer. That's what my mother died from. So, it's a definite YES from me.
