The Homosexuals

Singer Bruno Wizard is still gigging, though currently with a guitarist rather than a full band. My band were playing on the same bill as him just last month. I chatted with him a little, and he's an interesting character! In some ways his demeanour is more like an old hippy than an old punk (with reminiscences about LSD and musings about space) and he's an an engaging performer in a "you have to be there" sort of way.

oh, many of us were there. We all recognized how awful that music was even back then.

And haven't really liked any record that came out past 1978?

For one you can't narrow down a genre like that. I like early punk. I still think 90% of it is really bad. But like most genres that endured, some of those artists had something of value to offer.

They are great. They are like a harder version of that band that the singer of fine young cannibals was in before, forget the name. They had the Pink Slippers song. Anyway, good music!

After reading all your comments I was expecting something much worse, but as far as punk goes this isn't so bad at all. I like that guitar solo starting with that screech around 1:45, sounds kind of Sonic Youth-ish to me. As far as the overall sound it's kind of tame and well-constructed compared to some punk I've heard. Compare that with this band out of Michigan in the 1980s, love this raw F-you energy. Certainly no music virtuosity here, but I think this band's drummer wound up playing for Sonic Youth, actually. If you dislike the Homosexuals you're really gonna hate this:

No, I'm not that guy - I like lots of music that's new - I just always thought punk was idiotic. What, I don't have that option??

Weren't these guys also from Michigan? I kinda like them, Dayglo Abortions are pretty great too, IMO, but not from Michigan at all.

You have that option, just don't expect anything for it. Especially when you word it in such a way that basically insults people that disagree with you, people are going to get offended. I couldn't care any less, just don't act like you have no idea where the backlash is coming from if you word your opinion as bluntly as "We all recognized how awful that music was even back then." People disagree, and we're all cool with it, just, you know, be nice about it - because sometimes the exact reasons why you dislike something are the exact reasons why somebody else likes the same thing.
