The Homosexuals

Weren't these guys also from Michigan? I kinda like them, Dayglo Abortions are pretty great too, IMO, but not from Michigan at all.

You have that option, just don't expect anything for it. Especially when you word it in such a way that basically insults people that disagree with you, people are going to get offended. I couldn't care any less, just don't act like you have no idea where the backlash is coming from if you word your opinion as bluntly as "We all recognized how awful that music was even back then." People disagree, and we're all cool with it, just, you know, be nice about it - because sometimes the exact reasons why you dislike something are the exact reasons why somebody else likes the same thing.

Fair enough.
I still think punk is awful - but that's just me. Or is it...

Man I just can't relate to some people my age. When I read some of these reactions to this band I was like "it can't be THAT bad." So I checked it out. Its ok punk, not great, not bad. I immediately thought "if that's horrible to them I wonder what they'd think of the crucifð¢ks", and then someone posted Hinkley had a Vision!

Personally, I don't even find them "challenging" listening. Perhaps I have much wider tastes in musical expression. Do some of you only get hard listening to Bob Seger or something?
Some of the most intoxicating music comes from the edges of experience if you ask me. Anyone can write Night Moves and yawn their life away.

We're the Meatmen and You Suck is one of my all-time favorites. Damn they were good! So thoroughly inappropriate in every dimension they could conceive of.

Saying punk sucks is kind of like saying Van Gogh sucks because he couldn't paint like the Dutch Masters. No where near photo realism.

Naivety and outsider art will always have their place, thank the heavens!

After reading all your comments I was expecting something much worse, but as far as punk goes this isn't so bad at all. I like that guitar solo starting with that screech around 1:45, sounds kind of Sonic Youth-ish to me. As far as the overall sound it's kind of tame and well-constructed compared to some punk I've heard. Compare that with this band out of Michigan in the 1980s, love this raw F-you energy. Certainly no music virtuosity here, but I think this band's drummer wound up playing for Sonic Youth, actually. If you dislike the Homosexuals you're really gonna hate this:

That's great! Have to get this one!

Yeah... wasn't punk supposed to be all about "I don't care what you think!"? - when did that change?
There's punk as a music genre, and there's punk as a way of life. Not the same...

I'm kind of interested why you dislike the band this thread's about that much. Generally, musical distaste is kind of interesting. I always listen from a completely different perspective. When I dislike something, it's either boring (because nothing interesting is happening), qualitative unsufficient (e.g. untight, bad songwriting) or just weird. However, weird is just an expression to say that I'm not used to it. For me it's like listening to Free-Jazz. I'm just not used to it.

Then there's the distaste in music because of completely different reasons. You may connect punk with the life you consider to be "uncivilized" etc (which simply means you hate all punks). Too bad I met too many of those guys. I heard so many excuses for not liking something, not just in music. It's bad because communists, gays, uncivilized, dirty, foreigner-lovers, traiter to one's country... (unfinished list of right-wing argumentation) like it!
