Very Nice raccio14. Definitely deserves the better knobs. Mine is missing a couple (it was used after all). The one left is silver. I'll post a couple of pics later.

Raccio14, that thing must turn some heads! Very nice. I can't believe it had black plastic knobs. On the other hand, the knobs you chose are perfect!
Very nice. Can't stand those jatoba/bubinga necks though. I prefer the maple on the 300 and 400 series basses. Still, very nice bass.Beautiful bass!

,im thinking of putting a gold bridge/knobs and winders on the 800,dunno if itll make it look too trashy tho

I really don't mind the neck, though i'm pretty sure its wenge/bubinga, not jatoba/bubinga.
Really, my biggest complaint about the bass is the string spacing. The super-tight SR string spacing kinda annoys me, as my hands are pretty big and I think i'd feel more comfortable with a more traditional spacing. It also makes playing slap REALLY difficult for me, as far as right hand technique goes.
I'd get another, different bass, but I'm in LOVE with the finish/wood. I know that's really shallow, and am kind of ashamed to admit that I wanna keep the bass just cause of looks :scowl:

It's just the character of an instrument. You can put more energy into a harder-to-play bass w/ 19mm spacing and a higher action, needless to say that it's easier to slap&pop. On the other hand, the narrow neck w/ low action gives you more speed, both for the fingerstyle and for picking, and also more subtlety, in a sence. If your playing style is on one of the sides, you need only one kind of an instrument. If you're into both, you need both. You can also have a certain playing style, but then start diggin' the other. So, I guess, you need another instrument, but it's no cause to give up playing this one and keep it on a stand all the time. Give it a try, anyway. I mean, an extended try

Actually, I decided exactly this, just last night. I'm getting a 4-string Sterling by MusicMan Ray34. Good 4-string bass for playing slap and it will compliment my 5-er nicely, filling in for the style areas where the Ibby' just doesn't cut it.

I got a used GSR200 ($75 off craigslist) about 2 months ago which I promptly upgraded with Dimarzio DP126 pups and added a homebrew single JFET buffer/preamp. This is my starter bass (been playing acoustic and classical guitar for a while) for my church band. I like playing bass so much I've invested in a BTB675 which should arrive in a couple of days.
So far, I've found the Ibanez basses to be great value and good fun. Please add me to this most distinguished club!!

Very interesting finish there. Love the translucent over what looks like swamp ash?

man i have to be honest, dont know nothing about his story, i know that i was supposed to buy it from a guy in may/june and a friend of mine got it, now he sold it to me.
dont know how many owners he had before me and if it is swamp ash ... i dont really know, but i have to say, that's not the wood's grain ... and i dont want to ruin the finish.
the only thing that suprised me was the serial number
F820813
meaning june of 1982 and it's the nº813 bass built for that month
According to the '82 catalog, the finish is Brazilian Red over laminated mahogany body (I'm assuming the body has an ash core, with front and back mahogany laminates). The model is BL800BR.
