The Ibanez Club (Part 3)

Same body and finish as my 205 w/o the B string and P/J instead of J PU's. The Phat II is very useful. I crank it slowly to add sustain and use it to make my practice BX15 handle the B much nicer.

It's my workhorse. The quality is amazing for 250 US. :bassist:
ya I won it for 100 bucks since it was in the wrong category on ebay and nobody else bidded on it, it will arrive sometime late this week.

p.s. thanks for the number Danomite

he guys! i need all your help! shoul i get a fender jazz? an ibanez sr500? or sr700? ive been playing bass for 2 years, im 13, and i play funk, punk, (indie) rock, classic rock, and some metal, but not much. and is thediffeence between the 500 and 700 just looks?? or does the 700 have an upgraded pup?
700 has a figured maple top.

Go to a store, try the different models. I like the SR400s.

I almost traded one of my epi les pauls this weekend for a sr800 with a tremelo ...

as epic as that would be ( and the hours of primus and flektones that would ensue) i just couldn't part with the guitar.
maybe if it hadn't been jewel blue like my 300dx ...

My 800le is Jewel Blue i think...i love the color, looking on Ebay etc ive never seen many 800le for sale in comparison to other Ibby`s,is that because there crap or maybe not so many made guys??

Has anyone tried the GSR250M yet? I love maple boards and I'm wondering what exactly the preamp does on these. Is it an active preamp or what? The Agathis body concerns me a bit, but I guess in this pricerange, it wouldn't be a deal ender.

Any thoughts?

My new-old dream Ibanez SR505 (Although I wanted the 500, can't complain for the extra string :P)

The bridge pickup alone sounds VERY VERY thin. So thin, I'm not ever soloing it. Is this normal for this bass?

Did you just get this? What is all that crud all over the bridge? My last eBay bass (SR405) had a similar residue all over the hardware. I managed to clean it off with metal polish, I think.
With all the EQ knobs flat, both my SR40Xes sound a little trebly with bridge soloed, but not thin, per se. Bridge PU should be a bit higher to account for the different string volume.

I'll clean it when I buy a new set of strings. As far as I can see, the only thing that isn't 'new-looking' on this bass is the chrome hardware. I think it's due to the moist in my country.

If I rolled the bridge/neck pup knob while a note rings you can hear how all the low-end frequencies are gone and some mids appear instead. I think there might be something wrong with the pickup or the preamp but I don't really know how to test this...

Those look like Elixir Nanos - and if so, they are just starting to grow fur, so they may not be all that old.

But that corrosion is pretty bad - if those screw heads are all the funky! They look like rust has formed, at least on the heads of the screws and the bridge springs.

Be careful is you use any abrasives on an Ibanez bridge - the coating is thin and it will wear through easily if you don't use caution.

1985 MIJ Roadstar II PJ "thump king" (she uses flats only)
This thing out fenders any fender!
mods:
Badass II bridge
Tyler Henderson hand wound vintage P, 5% overwound J pups
ABM adjustable brass nut
CTS pots
"Push-Push" DPDT series/parallel pot
Orange drop .047 cap
Ampelmännchen and Trogdor stickers for added tone and badassedness!

If there is a number to be handed out, I'll take one please.

I'd love a number! I have been playing Fenders for years but recently fell in love with a TR 505 Expressionist. I'm playing heavy covers on several different tunings so I made the move to a 5 string. I picked up the TR 505 for $100 bucks as a training bass. I just used it at rehearsal Wednesday and the other guys couldn't believe how great it sounds! She came to me set up perfectly as I bought it from a luthier. I was planning on saving up for a Fender 5 string, but this may become my primary gigging has. Wow....I had no idea how great Ibanez basses are!
Thanks!
Jer

They have identical electronics, but sr700 has flame maple top and maple center block, while sr500 is all mahogany. Hence, sr500 is a bit warmer, and sr700 is a bit brighter and has much more sustain. But in fact you might not need that sustain, and overall sr500 is a very good bass. Try them in a store first.

hey folks I finally took pics of that 100.00 GSR200FML. A little review? For what it is it is, nothing special but nothing wrong with it. Lightweight feels like a toy, strings on it are fresh and tone is very good and the neck is nice enough I could use it as a substitute to my Charvels if I wanted to bring it to a gig. The pots must be messed up because the VV don't work the way it should ( if I turn the P on only-fine, if I turn off the P, the j will not come on all by itself, only if the P vol is up somewhat and there is the typical vol drop when both vol's are full on ).

no big deal the electronics are coming out because I can't stand VVT in the first place. I have a Jackson pre that is going into it anyway, as well as a dual Rail SD j-pup in HB mode, so the knobs will be Vol/Treb/Bass/Blend.

why toss out the hardware? because IMO, that phat is 100% useless. off it sounds great but a 1/8 or more on, it sounds like I should be playing MUSE bass songs VERY crappy and distorted!!! However, I do think the sliding TR cover is a cool idea.....

^army pt caps, who uses those?(I've only been in hot climates) I have a GSR200 in Jewel Blue and love it. I like that it's light and a very fast neck, only thing weird is that the P pickup is flipped so I have to be mindful if I slap/pop near it... Best bang for the buck though $170. I sold an epi lp std to get it.

I've been playing bass for about 3 years. I use an Ibanez GSR 190.

I was wondering if you guys could solve this predicament.

I'm confused between a Spector Classic 4 string and an Ibanez SR 500. Which one's the better buy?
