The Ibanez Club (Part 5)

Already have a number for my own bass, just wanted to share this one. I cleaned up/fixed up an old bass for one of my buddies, apparently he got it from his uncle a year or two ago but never had time to learn to play it so it sat in a corner gathering dust...and worse. This Ibanez Roadster had seen much better days. Apparently it had been abused by a previous owner, as the bottom edge is covered with dings and gouges, and the jack had been partially ripped through the front of the bass (hence the ugly little jack plate) but the neck was straight (after some truss work) and the electronics still worked properly. After a couple hours of work I plugged it in, tuned it up, set the intonation and it was on to the fun. This thing sounds great! Pickup is very weird looking (why brown?), but in its location it cops a great musicman tone, right from the sweet spot. Some questions:
Is the pickup a humbucker? Only has one set of polepieces but I didn't notice any hum.
Is the body actually flamed maple or is it just a thin piece on the top and on the back?

Either way its fun to play, I bet it was a great bang for the buck back then.

I know... no pics... no basses. That's OK. You can see pics of my PGB1 in the classifieds (decided to keep it... plays/sounds too good). I'll take pics of the others as soon as I land the GWB2.

There's a cool '70s Ibanez (Ric Clone) on the San Diego Craigslist for $600. It's not mine... but I would love to call it mine: )

Says they designed new bridges for all the SR models.

And they finally did away with that "style sweeper" on the lower end Soundgears. Now they all have standard 3-band EQs. I think this was a good decision.

It also looks like there's a few new BTB models.

Didn't see anything about SRTs, SRAs, or SRXs.

I'm really glad to see they will finally be completely phasing out the "style sweeper". I think that thing was terrible.

The new bridges on the soundgears don't really look much different, though.

Ok, I admit I am a bass snob that laughs at the notion of paying good $$$ for a bass made in Indonesia, Korea, etc.

All of my basses are American except a beater Squier. I have owned Sadowsky, Lakland, Beneventes, Roscoe, Dingwall, MTD and others and currently gig Fenders, EBMM and Gibson basses.

In any case, I just grabbed an Ibanez Premium SR1205 from my local music store to try for the weekend..... Holy crap is this ever a nice bass!

Ok.... It is $1000 AND made in Indonesia.... But the fit and finish remind me of a Benevente I owned recently. The neck pocket is tight, the stain is perfect and the body is perfectly carved and finished. This is a professional grade instrument to say the least.

I love the Nordy PU and all the hardware is top notch. The bridge is a bit over the top, but that isn't really a negative.... I am used to Hipshot, Badass, fFender, EBMM, etc....I guess.

The only issue I have with this bass is the fact that it doesn't come with a case... And the bass I borrowed has a scratchy pot. It was in a sealed box when I picked it up, but the pot is an easy fix. Strangely, the bass was in PERFECT tune (1/2 step down though) and well set up. Oh, what is the deal with the SDGR logo on the headstock? Why not "Ibanez"? Just nitpicking in any case!:bassist:

I am likely keeping this one.

The tones is killer and I just love the string spacing. Such an easy playing bass that is amazingly comfortable.

Good for Ibanez. I really can't believe more pros arent using these guitars.

FYI, they are supposed to come with a case. Mine did and it had Ibanez Premium labelled on the outside pocket. It is hard/soft case.

Hi! I’m pretty new to the forums and the bass for that matter. I started playing in March 2011 and I love it! I started on an Ibanez GSR200 but just bought myself a SR755 for Christmas. I did a lot of research and played a lot of basses before picking my latest baby. I love the small neck, light weight (I’m a rather small 5’ 5” woman) and deep sound of the SR755. Love the Bartolini’s! I’d love a member #.

Congrats! Have you determined the weight of the SR755?
