I wonder if anyone had a chance to play a KS with this wood combination; mahogany core and walnut top. I am looking for a KS and i saw a bass with this wood combo, I would like to know how is the sound. I had black and white tigers KS but not this wood combo. Can someone tell me how does it sounds. It’s a dark sound. Not bright at all.

I think when he said dark not bright that is within the range of tones of a smith bass and not a generalized statement of all basses. I had a walnut mahogany 6 and I really regret selling it. Wish I could take that one back

Has anyone had their Smith refinished at the factory?

There was a small, sharp metal scrap (God knows how) at the bottom of my gig bag and it scratched the hell out of my baby’s bottom....

I can’t stand looking at it. I know I can email Ken but just wanted some other owners experience.

Best advice, from a newbee, let Ken do it.

Secondly, there are some really good repair people out there. And trust me, probably every music store will say theirs is really good, but I think you could find one that could rub out the scratch and apply Ken's secret sauce of Stradivarius oil under varnish.

You'll have todo some searching.

Thanks! I`m using a Sansamp RBI with everything at 12 o`clock except for a slight bit of bass boost and some drive. The Sansamp is going into a small Behringer mixer and from there to my Zoom recorder.

Quick string question. Is there any big difference between the KS tapper core vs KS regular strings? I heard the tension is greater on the non-tapper strings, Is that true? Can you get lower action on the KS non-tapper strings?
