I was so impressed with my new BSR 5 string that I had to get this, a 2012 Black Tiger Elite 6 string. Used but in mint condition. Can't wait to gig with this bass.

So far I'm liking my 6'er - been gigging it on some jazz and Brazilian hits. Maybe this time it will stick. If so, I might have to order up a fretless twin...
The other odd thing - I typically hate gold hardware. But this bass looks just right with it, and I think it wouldn't look nearly as good with black which is my go-to. Go figure...

I think the gold needs to match with the wood tones.
Ken's "secret sauce" seems to bring out a golden hue that goes well with gold hardware.
Hey hey I joined this club today, picked up a BSR5TN-CM Black Tiger not exactly sure what this means... need to buy a decoder ring I suppose.
Anyway found this in Taipei and the owner was kind enough to deliver it to me (90 min drv). He is an avid collector, oggled my Sad NYC 5ers and even offered to buy my STR LS549. Apparently he works for a company that builds offshore import models for, well almost every US guitar brand.
With all that useless info, I've owned almost every boutique bass made, including now this Smith and I I've heard it's tone is somewhat similar to a Sad Modern... and yeah they are in the same basic region (does smith make a passive tone knob?). What have I bought? There are dip switches, Does one mess with them? the barrel jack (looks like a G&L) is in need of replacement. I run Chromes on almost all my basses - anyone try this on a Smith?
OK its happy hour in Taiwan , gotta get some early party in before taking this to Worship tomorrow... with a trusty NYC in hand of course. And yes if you come to Taiwan I will share some of the candy in that box.

The dip switches can be adjusted to your personal taste, but be careful not to damage them.
A Smith is set up for use with tapered strings. If you use anything else, you will need to change the setup.

Last night's hit - celebrating Brazilian Independence Day at 1212 Santa Monica.
It appears that the dip switches adjust output of the BMT not frequency, yes?
I toyed with them a bit, and I'm honestly not sure.
They do seem to have an impact on the individual tone range.
If memory serves me, the descriptions for the mid dip switches indicate "lowest normal, medium narrow, medium wide and highest normal", which to me, sounds like frequency ranges.
Yes, dip switches (for the 18v BMT at least) change frequency centers (for all) and width (for mid), not output levels. There is a small pot on the board you can turn for overall preamp output.
Bass
lowest 1=on, 2=on
low 1=off, 2=on
high 1=on, 2=off
highest 1=off, 2=off
Mid
lowest (normal) 3=on, 4=on
medium (narrow) 3-off, 4=on
medium (wide) 3=on, 4=off
highest (normal) 3=off, 4=off
treble
lowest 5=on, 6=on
low 5-off, 6=on
high 5=on, 6=off
highest 5=off, 6=off
Evidently the default factory positions changed at some point over the years.
