We're doing Israel Houghton's Thank You Lord on Easter Sunday.
Now, I haven't had much experience with slapping and popping, and I decided that there were parts of that bass line that demanded popping, so I broke it out at rehearsal.
At the risk of being sickeningly trendy, OMG. That bass is a pop monster.
Got a lot of smiling head turns and thumbs up from the people in the Easter choir.
It was yummy.

I was talking with a dealer about a build and he told me 9 months before they even start on it.
It's a major change so lag is to be expected. Who knows how many orders were in progress or placed before and during. If it preserves the longevity of the brand it makes sense to do it despite the disruption and possible backlash. I guess only time will tell the effect on the product.
Maybe the right time to sell my 5-string. I don't see a lot of classy used ones.

I think I saw one on the 'verb. The carving on the back of one made the laminate borders look a bit "off", like they weren't following the contours of the body very well...maybe the body radii is a bit different too.
I was pretty set on getting one but if I do it would just be a single wood body...hard to mess up a single piece of wood..

I also noticed that. It isn't "messing up", just a different attention to details. I think it happens because their wood curving method takes a bit less wood from that specific area. Along with the new shiny finish there's indeed some visual difference, but, from the pictures they do look perfectly built. I'd need to hold one in my hands to develop a concrete opinion.

I was in Kevin's (Brubaker) shop a couple times over the last couple of weeks. He has several KS basses in various stages of build. At a glance, prob 8 - 10 in process right now.
He's already built a few and they've been sent off to Ken. Ken gave him very positive feedback and at least one of those is up for sale (I think the others were already spoken for). This is one Kevin built and is FS (no affiliation with the seller):

This lovely 89' Shedua BT6 came back into shop for some TLC. Who knows how long it had been since the f/b had a good cleaning. Armed with 0000 steel wool and mineral oil, we gave the Ebony board a little touch up. Judging from what came off on the paper towel, it had been a while since it's last application.
Mineral oil is great for maintaining unfinished f/b's such as Cocobolo, Ebony and Rosewoods. Once or twice a year is the norm and it only takes 10 minutes. A perfect time for this would be during a string change. Be sure to tape off the pick-ups as any errant steel wool fibers are not good for the electronics inside. It's a good idea to vacuum the top of the bass before removing the painter's tape.
With the new set of strings on, this one's a keeper.

Which one is more versatile and more suited to instrumental music. Which of these bass is more expensive (the model itself)??? ... I just can buy them at one price ... about $ 2800-3500 for one of these instruments.
