A while back I got lucky when driving a few miles to look at a Carvin bass I found in an ad. The Carvin turned out to be a dud, but the guy selling it had a dusty old Ken Smith standing in a corner. After a short conversation about it I made him a shamefully bad offer and he surprisingly accepted it. So after a lot of cleaning, adjusting and a fret leveling - and getting rid of the awful smell of decades of smoking - it turned out really good. It's a 1988 BT with a maple fretboard, for a Smith that's rare fretboard wood.

Fortunately I’m not in the market at the moment as I have a custom in order from someone else. Good for the Smith company!

A lot. Still, less than some of the used ones I see on the classifieds and Reverb. Used market for those has gone nuts.

Wish you the best with your search. Your best bet might be to keep your eye on google searches for them. If most of us are like me, once you get a Smith, you keep it for life.

As someone who searches all the time, they are out there. It's just a matter of being able to afford them when they are available. And that is a constantly scaling variable!
