I get it, but I've never had a problem in 35 years (lucky!) and with a bunch of basses it's easier for me to just test them periodically.

Ive been on a bass hiatus for a while.
I traded 93 Burner standard in black about 16 years ago that I regretted since.
Found this on Reverb and had to jump on it.
Don’t see too many of these now a days.

Cool! You don’t see that shape of the Burner a lot. Almost all Burners I see have the BT shape. Did they make only a few of these BSR Burners?
This one was completed 7/11/2000.
I believe they only made the BSR-B from 99-01 or so.
The build, lightweight and timbre are unmistakably Smith. Compared to my CR5V it's like a stripped down J version of the USA line.
The tone is killer! It even came with the OG Smith strap and gig bag.
Ok thanks. I wonder if these differ in sound from the 90’s BT shaped Burners? Are those the same pickups and electronics?
Did they also make 6-string BSRB basses?
caasi91, nice score! These are great instruments. Fingerboard is rosewood like early Burners. Most had morado but it seems that later BSRB runs went back to rosewood.
I own a 91 Burner 4 std and used to own a 98 BSRB5 custom. They are essentially the same product, just different shapes. The 91 has the old MIJ preamp but that ended about a year or two later. Everything else is the same.
Ok, good to know. I have a Burner 6 Artist. But have some GAS for a Burner 4. Because I think the single coils of the 4 and 6 sound (very?) different from the soapbars on the 6. But I also read the single coils are single coil humbuckers. But do they sound very different? If not I can put my GAS away and save me some me some bucks! Anyone compared the 4/5 with the 6 Burners?
Are you referring to the Burners with soapbars?
I remember reading those got closer to the full Smith sound but you don’t really see many of them or owners reviewing them.
I’d love to get my hands on the Custom or Artist Burners. Those seem quite rare as well.
Anyone remember the Smiths with J pick ups?
Yes I am really curious how the Burner soapbars on the Burner 6 differ in sound from the single coil humbuckers on the Burner 4 and 5. Anyone compared those?

My old Smith J!! You got it looking like new!!!
My buddy used to have one just like this, fabulous sound! I was thinking this might be his former Smith, but remembered his had a Walnut body Quilted maple top.
Yeah, this is all maple body. The quilt is quite nice too. I might be biased, but I think the Smith J's don't get enough credit. Since the neck pickup is more forward, the low end is different than a standard J (or humbucker Smith, for that matter), I really like it.
The pickups are stacked coil, so you can solo with no noise which is awesome.

Your absolutely right. If it was a 6, I probably would have kept it!!
